Intel Inside - Experiment

Behrooz Roozbeh, you’re really not giving us much info to help you. I assume version 2 of Zbrush, have you tried the steps that were successful in various posts above???

To be specific, please list the steps you have done and the order you did them so we can hopefully narrow down the issue. There are no guarantees, as everytime Apple updated the OS things sometimes got better, sometimes not so much.

Aurick has done many people a nice favour with his post above.

However if you are running 3.1 under VMFusionWare, you should be doing pretty well as you have a far more powerful system than my first generation Intel MacBookPro.

timaging, did you not report success in an earlier post??? Fill us in if so and what has transpired since. If you were not successful, fill us in.

Will try to help, even though I haven’t been around in sometime - sorry I get very savant like when on big projects.

Hey Jason, Thanks for your quick reply!
not sure what other info to give… my problem on the mac side is that I cant get into zbrush in the first place …I filled out the questioner from the first post…

Yes, I am running zbrush 2.03 … I’ve downloaded aurick’s uiCustom and placed it inside zbrush2 application folder.

I still get the colorwheel and zbrush stop respondeing even before I get the chance to start activation (press Next)

I will go back start reading rest of the msgs (all 16 pages) maybe I missed something I should have tried

glad to report windows version of zbrush 3.1 is running well under VMware.
Cheers, Behrooz

Well it’s been awhile since I ran this version of Zbrush, as I use the latest under Parallels until the day…

A script exists as well to get you going or at last it has helped some people.

Your running Leopard and that is new here. Quite a few changes in the OS since Tiger. I’ll try to setup a test machine this week to see if I can help.

Poke me if I don’t reply, I’m not trying to ignore you.

Jason, Thanks again for the reply and help…

I also tried runing _zbrushrun_master.app.scpt file on my system and zbrush starts and hangs up as soon as opening.

btw…I am getting my work done using VMware and zbrush3.1…
…just sending warning info for others w/ the similar mac and OS setup.
:ex:

Just to chime in here, ZBrush2 with Aurick’s UI file worked great on my Core Duo iMac running Leopard - no problems. However, I just picked up a 1st-generation Mac Pro, and I’m in the same boat as Behrooz - beachball as soon as it starts, no ability to get past the Welcome Screen (also under Leopard). It appears that aurick’s UI file isn’t turning off the Welcome Screen on Mac Pros for some reason.

The issue sounds a lot like what we all had with first generation machines. Basically, Rosetta hasn’t had time to start up, slip into memory, before Zbrush is trying to grab it. Early on and with a refinement or 2 we had a script that would start things for you with a delay (could be lengthened at will). This resolved it for my machine and several others, but I do know that Stewart still had issues.

Leopard is a whole new thing to bring to the party, I guess we’ll just need a few guinea pigs to try things all over again and see if we can’t get enough info to see if the issues are similar. Perhaps then I can do something more constructive.

Given that ZB3 is (hopefully) getting close to release, getting ZB2 running is not very high on my list of priorities. I was mainly just letting everyone know that ZB2 seems to be a no-go on the Mac Pro, even with Aurick’s UI config, but that it seems to be fine on 2-core machines.

Hi,
Thanks to this thread I could have hope to open the program
because the first time I tried about 3 times and was SO pissed off that was something wrong after I took a week Until I got the registration file from Pixologic and haven’t been able to use the program… so then i saw the thread that made me persist a little more, Unfortunately just by forcing quit it didn’t work for me, I tried about 15 times, then decided to reboot the OS, then open different applications such as Msn, Safari, and closed them (don’t know if matters close the apps, I did anyways) Then opened ZB and worked, but Then… i closed the program without deselecting or changing the settings to “not show” the “Greeting” window…so it took me a while (about 5 times) to reopen again… ok it works… so here is my question… How do I deactivate that littlle window?
(I promisse I won’t close ZB untill I receive the answer LOL.
Thanks.
here is the specs.

nortonnn, glad your having some success. No one should be deprived of a cool toy like Zbrush.

In the Preferences , you will find a setting for the Splash screen that allows you to turn it off. Did you try the file Aurick posted that rbaumhauer mentions, it’s above in this thread?

Not closing the app works very well, I think I managed 3 months at one time, but I do use a very customized version of XP to eliminate all possible issues. Basically threw 70% of it the window.

rbaumhauer, we all hope for a native version, but it does seem we have been left behind again… However some people have gotten things running on the MacPro, the main issue I see is the speed. Things are happening too fast on those systems. In essence the emulation is having issues handing off to the system fast enough, specifically as Zbrush is a ‘memory’ app. I’ve been looking into it on and off for some time as ‘virtualization’ is becoming a large part of the world. However to be honest I have yet to try a MacPro in any way shape or form for anything.

The auricks file I already did put in the folder of 1.55b(if thats how is suppose to be) and nothing happens
but he says clearly “for Leopard”
Mine is tiger OS
maybe thats why…
and again how do I turn off the Splash Screen?
I went to preferences and the only thing that looks relevant or that makes sense is Preferences>Misc>SkipWelcomeScreen but I click in there and then close the program and all over again -.- then I go to check that box and it is Unmarked.
Is there anywhere else?Or I have to save the settings if yes how do I save?
THanks Jason Balec for the quick response.

Hi nortonnn, my bad on Aurick’s file you are correct. I keep forgetting some people are still sticking to Tiger. Missing all the cool fixes Leopard provides.

If you search through this thread, splash screen instructions occur a few times. Only need to change Preferences>Miscellaneous>Splash Screen in that spot, if you didn’t save - as you mention, your back to square one.

I think much of this started around post #184

Please understand, I don’t mind helping people however you do have to read all the posts in a thread(s) so you at least understand the known problems people have had and solutions that were tried. That is why I start and try to keep up various threads to help the next person. The more I see people at least attempt to help themselves, the more I’m encouraged…

I also think this may help http://209.132.96.165/zbc/showthread.php?t=17857&highlight=splash+screen

By the way something Stuartpa noticed, what version of Tiger are you using? One version needed my scriot, the other worked with the splash screen off and no script…

All that said, I do hope you can get some enjoyment out of Zbrush today.

I know about leopard =/ but its because Im gonna upgrade my macpro to a New macpro next year so thats why I didnt change yet…new macs new OS’s

And yes I agree with you, I should have read before, right after I posted I tried again then I found the “Store UI”(to save the configs) and “Splash screen” for some reason is (Skip Welcome Screen) for me… thats why I couldnt find.
Im new at the forum, maybe thats why I rushed a little, can find most of the answers already here.
Thanks again. and Im learning how it works now, I open then it freezes then I do something else for a couple of minutes (forget ZB) then reopen and it opens like less than 1 SEC! its instantly.

Excellent, so you are functional now, glad to hear it.

Now you will be able to start a thread on the main forum and show us your cool stuff!!!

Since I went Intel on my laptop, I was having occasional problems, of the type discussed above. However the script on P 16 here really made things more solid. Thanks!

(MacBookPro 2.4G, 320GB Fujitsu 5400RPM HD, MacOSX 10.4.11, 2 GB RAM, 2 more on the way… I haven’t done the cross-grade, as I still have a lot of learning to do about v.2.)

Excellent news TommyMandel, glad this thread is still of value to people! Long live community!!

And thanks to Aurick for the cool script that you mention.

yeah, nothing’s working for me any more. I just added that welcome screen fix and I’m still getting the welcome screen/beachball. I just tried running what I believe to be the latest apple script and go this:

005.jpg

Yike!

Can you check the Console log and post the info relating to Zbrush or the script here? Not any of the other crap.

I’ll see what I can figure out for you. Or someone may… I’m a little slow these days on a few things due to that Murphy guy messing with schedules.

sure…this is what I got:

I’ve just re-installed ZB2 on my new macpro…and along with the new licence i got a message warning me about problems with intel macs…ho …hum…and so the saga continues

None of the fixes in this thread seem to be working,i seem to be in the same boat as >timaging

Macpro 3.2 Quad core intel Xeon
RAM 2GB(apple installed)
OSX 10.5.2

I can’t even get past the ‘agree’ button on the start up

has anyone got any other ideas?

I’m not best pleased with being told i have to buy VMware/Parallels and Windows and use a PC licence…to run a piece of software i’ve already paid for and was working

oh now i find this thread !!!
my lap top , with working z2, just died…
so i upgraded to a new imac intel …
reinstalling has only given me a spinning beachball and the joys of forcequitting, ive only just sent off for my re registration code , maybe i’ll be lucky ???
but i have a funny feeling i’ll be revisiting this thread for some advice…
