Good stuff, Dickie! You should be very proud of your Ork. 50.
My, My, My, apparently Blood Magic woke up on the wrong side ‘o’ the bed today…LOL…Alright Son, here’s the deal.
I’ve been in the CG biz as a pro for 18 years. I got an Emmy for Star Trek:Enterprise and another nomination. I’ve
been Visual Effects Supervisor on a few films and CG Sup on a few others. I’ve headed up modeling teams. Sheeit, my buddy Fred and I built the Digital Freakin’ Titanic for James Cameron (Whom I’m working with now on an IMAX flick he’s doing).
Anyhow, my point is I’ve hired and fired a whole assload of folks in my time. Some more
talented than I. The reason I’ve had to fire a few was not because of thier talent, necissarily, but because of their attitude.
Since I’ve been in this biz, I’ve developed a REAL thick skin when it comes to critiques.
I need those comments to grow as an artist.
Please feel free to continue your critiques,
BUT point out specifics. “The skin painting looks off” or “Nice model but the tusks don’t have enough detail”. Coming onto a forum with
pointless harsh comments will earn you the moniker “Asshat” and you will not be taken seriously. At least not by me.
These forums are by far the best I’ve seen on the internet for CG work. I don’t read other forums because of all the flamewars and other crap. I just don’t have the time. I come here to learn and teach. I have not seen negative posts on this board like yours before. They sully this amazing group of artists and friends. All I ask is that you THINK before you post.
Dickie
Oh, and Blood Magic, be VERY careful who you insult, Bro, they may very well be your next boss…
OK, now for a positive post…
Jantim and LD: Thank you and don’t worry, I’ll still be posting…
Ron: Thank you for the kind words and also for poiting out Pixolators 121 thread. Words to live by in any artistic critique.
CDEdwards: Thank you and I am definately planning on making him scarred and beaut up looking. He is by no means a finished orc yet…LOL
Mike: Thank you, my Brother. I was so proud
when Zorahm made the stickies. Now, with the
lighting and shader knowledge you shared with me, The orc made it up there. Without your help, I’d still be foundering… Thank you again…
Aminuts: Thanks for the props, Bro! You are correct. The fire does distract from the orc. That image was just a test to see how well lighting can be integrated in Z-brush. It only took 10 minutes…LOL… I’m impressed by Z-brush’s lighting. It’s limited in some ways
and very flexible in others.
WChamlet: Thanks for your kind words too.
I’ve been a fan of your work for a while so it’s nice to hear your opinion. Your armor in some older threads helped inspire me for my armor today… and for the fire pic, see above…
50’s Kid: Thanks for the props! I’ve been a fan of your work too and your presence here on the forum is an invaluable service for us all.
and finally
Blood Magic: These are the type of orcs I’m going for:
http://us.games-workshop.com/games/warhammer/orcs/painting/orcbitz/gw_product.htm
NOT Lord of the Rings orcs…in case that’s why you flamed my work.
Dickie
Holy Moly, Dickie! and well said. And you have time for Zbrush?
50.
Very cool Orc.
I’m just starting with zbrush.
the demo is cool.
I need to get a wacom tablet before I
can go any further.
If it works out well with my ut2004
modeling I’ll probably pick up zbrush2
have you used it for any ut2004 models
or static meshes?
Bravo Dickie. Amazing as usual.
And Blood Magic I’m just missing your point man. Don’t be so jealous of Dickie. Hi’s got the talent and you know it. Maybe this is your problem.
Roadkill, I’ve not made any lo-poly models in Z-Brush yet, but others on this board have. Start a thread about it and you’ll get plenty of info how Z-Brush is for lo-poly work…
As for a Wacom, It’s a good investment as it’s great for Photoshop and Z-Brush. I just use it in these 2 Apps and it’s worth it’s weight in gold.
As for buying Z-Brush, It’s the best $500 I ever spent for software…with Lightwave and Photoshop a close 2nd and third…
Oh, and welcome to the asylum, Roadkill. The inmates rock…
Dickie
First, you are welcome. I love sharing Z, it is the most fun.
Second, you have done what in CG?
faints
wakes up
oh yeah, and thank you for that link. I too am going to take a crack at one of those orcs. Very cool material for inspiration.
falls back into faint
wow Dickie, u are experienced! no wonder this model is so sweet Blood Magic obviously doesn’t know what he is talking about, i mean look at his gallery and then look at Dickie’s gallery, LOL!
artboy
Dickie, if your playing with lights…then you havent lived until you start throwing up some imgs or alphas into the gdi and gsi areas for some awesome funky effects.
oh…did you mention you did that with the fire light effect? if ya did…go ahead and bop me with the frying pan! If not…I think you’re gonna have some fun experimenting with that one.
Firelight effect? Whatchoo talkin’ about, Willis?..LOL…Guess I gotta dig even deeper into the light setting! Thanks for the info, Aminuts!
Dickie
I think Blood Magic should review his own gallery before he decides to comment on others.
I have an unrelated question. Time and again people include LOL in their post. There must be at least three in this thread. What does LOL mean?
was going to PM(private message) you LD about LOL but you dont accept PM’s. LOL =Laugh or Laughing Out Loud… Welcome to the internet
Ron
That orc is excellent man! It is good to see people who finish what they start. Love the texture and lighting, very nice.
thanks,
I find it funny that when I started doing
pwb design 20+ years ago I was on a aplicon
7000 with a tablet and now I’m going back to
one.
are the small one’s good enough or should I
go with the one with the hot keys accross the top?
I want to try and do a high poly model and
use the bump map for a low poly ut2004 player character,
at least thats the plan right now LOL.
Heja, Dickie, the “burnin´night´scene” is awsome
Hello Dickie
I don’t reply to much but I just had to tell you I have enjoyed you Orc work very much. I think you have captured the Warhammer style to a T. I am just a muck about with ZB but you have inspired me to keep on trying.
Best wishes and do keep posting whatever you care to share.
JIM
More replys for ya’ll:
Vlad: Thank you, Bro…
Mike and Artboy: Yeah, I’ve been doin’ this a looong time now…I didn’t want that post to come off as bragging, I wanted to illustrate that being nasty to folks could have consequences you don’t want to have to deal with…BloodyMagic and I have indeed made up and I sent him my 3 point lighting rig to see how his character’s head looks with ligting other than the default. Once he starts realizing HIS artistic potential, he’ll be a much mellower person…
Chanchito Gordo: Thank you and though the orc is mostly done, he still has a ways to go. I think that a custom breastplate is next…
Roadkill: I use a Wacom 6x8 Intuos pad. i LOVE it…
Abyssis: Thanks, Bro! Always a pleasure to hear from ya…
Hardtwist: Thank you, I’m glad you think that
I captured the Warhammer style… Now, I have a request for you. Let’s see some more of your work, Bro! My wife and I love yer clownfish! If you have obligations to friends and family, I understand.
If the orc helped inspire ya, then that is VERY cool…I just can’t wait to see what ya come up with…Even if ya only come up with one small technique, you have grown as an artist. The important thing to remember in your craft is to play. Have fun. When you enjoy what you are working on you will make images that will amaze you…
Dickie
Wow Dickie! You’re pretty good at this for a beginner!
Thanks for your help on the lighting. I saved that setup image to my hard drive for later.
Very impressive backlash at Bloody…whatever his name was. I think that most every golf course has it’s gofer…if you know what I mean. We may just have to put a Caddy Shack whoopin’ up on him. Who does he think he is coming in here and insulting you like that. ME I could understand, but you. Anyway, at least he apollogized. Plus, I see that you still helped him with his material. Very kind of you.
Anyway…thanks again! GREAT JOB!! No matter what the gofer says.
P.S. - If you do not understand my comments about the gofer then you probably need to disregard this thread, or rent Caddy Shack.
