flash 5

i recently dug into flash 5 (demo version at home) and a retail version at my school.
I really would like to learn some things about it and i was wondering if anyone knows any good places for tutorials (besides the lessons that come with flash)

thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.
You can find mega-flash tutorials at…

Flashkit is an excellent tutorial and Flash resource…I’ve also written just a couple of basic tutorials for Flash 4 and 5.

The last is the technique used for the following client site splash screen.

Swish version 2 is a lot easier to learn…flash type programme…cheap and excellent…good alternative to flash.

$US49… http://www.swishzone.com they have a demo

Swish can do some pretty amazing stuff itself. They recently had a contest and some of the stuff posted was quite good. Check it out!

Damn good!

Ibis Fernandez’ site FFM Has some good things too --but if you’re on a budget look into 3d flash animator 3.72 --at 3dfa.com most of flash’s animating ability for only 50 bucks… Kool Moves is spoken of too as an easier cheaper way to go Flash—do I throw my old ZBrush files away ?? no I make them into quasi animated nitemares like this Robo’s latest Flash Animation as usual have cable or DSL --have your SOUND on and prepare to wait 1 min 7 secs for it to start… :+1: :+1: :+1:

Please note that everything said here is my personal opinion and NOT an official endorsement by Pixologic.

The advantage to Flash is that over 99% of computers at this point have Flash Player already installed on them. It is truly cross-platform, and has the advantage that it displays precisely the same regardless of operating system or browser. That’s actually why I developed my website in Flash; not only did I have better control over what things would look like, where they would be, and what they would do, but I also knew that it would look exactly the same for everyone. As someone who has programmed HTML for years and seen Netscape or other browsers slaughter some of my work unless I built alternate versions with autodetect javascript (which itself doesn’t work in all browsers), I can’t stress enough what a huge benefit I found Flash to be.

The place where I actually learned the most in the shortest period of time was a book called “Foundation Flash 5” published by Friends of Ed. They now have “Foundation Flash MX” as well. It’s well worth the investment!

As an alternative to Flash, you may want to look into Adobe LiveMotion. For me, it was easier to grasp and it made more sense. Version 1 lacked scripting, so you could none of the high end flash stuff you see out there. Version 2 has fixed that, as well as allowing you the ability to script the interface.
Here is a review of the 2 :http://www.webmasterbase.com/article/695

Livemotion outputs files that are completely (I would think) compatible with the standard flash player. Well, I have not seen any differences so far.

You can get a 30 day demo from Adobe so why not? Typical Adobe interface.

Other people out there with more experience may be able to give you the real scoop about LiveMotion.

The main drawback with Livemotion for me was it’s inability to do shape tweening, which Flash does very well. I think this is still true for the latest incarnation of Livemotion.

You might also want to check Moho here. It’s a 2D animation software which will output to Flash or AVI. It’s most compelling feature though is a bones system for geometry deformations, and the price is just $99.

EDIT: I forget to mention they have a demo.

thanks a lot everyone!
i havent had much time to work with flash or zbrush lately with homework and other stuff but this weekend i will check everything out!

by the way i was looking at this flash animation and if anyone had played the game Max Payne or seen The Matrix you may wanna check this out. I guess it must be a really advance flash technique to do the “bullet-time and matrix camera effect” in flash.
CAUTION: explicit language and gore in the movie. http://chillspot.thechain.com/flash/maxpayne.swf

thanks again to everyone and i will check this out soon enough! :+1:
