i think a stone bg will be cool! a friend had mentioned like roman pillars… but i don’t know… i quite like a textured bg… does anyone know of any cool links to nice roman styled wall textures??
question - how do you creat an even bump, like the edge of the mask for example

thanks for your comments… im not quite sure of what you are meaning by an even bump? did you mean the line going around the edge of the helmet?
another update… im not so happy with the quality of the render in this one… and STIL gonna put in a BG, and perhaps a bit more of a dramatic light set-up… just finished doing the stand so i thought a small update.
I see no flaws in this. Looks dead on real to me. (with the exception of the stand, but that is still good…but that would be the only nit picking thing I could find that is wrongish with the image…) Outstanding job

STILL not finished… but i thought i would post this that im using for a presentation on the few layers i composoted the last render with… but the final needs a little more refinement on the maps esp the AO
I think once you put him in a dramatic pose, the DOF will be much more apparent and really set it off. You’ve had an astounding progression on this guy. congrats!
ok… this is the last transformation im gonna do for this guy… but i think it was a wise one… looks stronger now. its still not finished, a little refinement on the shaders, and still some texturing (ie. the helmet etc.) and placements still to do… so keep poseted… not long now… i’ve only got about two weeks to finish him and some other work… so not long. hope you like the NEW soldier…
here’s just a shot of the armour im almost done with. still needs some touching up on the leather side. did this render in MR with IBL lighting using an HDR map and point light.

Great choice of materials. Super render. I like the dull quality, rather than the “fresh from the factory” look of a lot of other pieces.

@ I am uh - mostly everything in this is seperate ie. the arms, head, legs armour, is all seperate pieces… it helps maximize detail across the entire piece.

just a little update on some of the materials…
think the little flaps need a little more work, and might change the color of the shoulder guards… render in MR again…
