Yes Jason, once it’s in your tummy it will be coming out, but not from any of the aforementioned body parts.
Edible Paint, drinks, bodypainting…
I’ll open New Jersey’s first Art’s-n-Liquor store!
Lemo
This thread is more entertaining than the main one!
Hmmm, I have to completely disagree on the creativity issue. We get more creative as we grow older and learn to use the tools we create with. We are not seeing a loss of creativity, merely an increase in our ability to portray whatever it is we are trying to create.
I remember winning monthly art prizes in the second grade with pictures of giant cowboys surrounded by a slew of tiny cowboys doing all kinds of things. Then saw a version of it in a truck commerical. Personally I think I had dreams of Pecos Bill on my mind. To those who don’t know who Pecos Bill is look him up. He was the Paul Bunyan of the southwest. Somehow I dont think the idea was very creative even for a child. Children learn by mimicing and doing. Their creative urges are usually limited to a more basic plane and very raw indeed.
Lemo with his Greebles, Mytholon with his Paintings, Wicked with his Comics. You can say that enough Greebles, Paintings and Comics are around already. That it has all been done before. But you would be wrong. It hasn’t. True creativity doesn’t and Shouldn’t equate to coming up with a template of something that has never been done before.
True creativity is how you present a variation of a theme and to follow it thru with the words of the old Sinatra song, “I did it my way”

Gotta agree with Tartan here.
I can’t believe that we lose our creativity at the age of 21 since thats roughly the time i only really started to understand all the tools i use to a degree where i could make what i want, how i want, rather than just prat around until i was bored of trying. Anytime i’m with my little sisters or cousins they will always want to draw around me because they see me draw and they want to be able to do the same, for girls its usually something of a family portrait with a house, for boys its usually a cartoon character or a monster of some sort. The only exceptions to this are if they’ve seen something thats fresh in their mind at the time of putting pen to paper, then you might get an interpretation of Alex from Madagascar or something.
To use the OP’s beach competition example. The kid was probably encouraged to draw a picture for the competition either from an advert or her parents, she heard the word “beach” and she drew a beach. I haven’t seen the painting, it could have been a monet but i think it’ll most probably be the same type of finger painting we’ve all seen on nursery walls since…forever.
Kids aren’t creative original thinkers, they just haven’t developed the ability to translate what they want in an accurate way which is why they will always draw stick figures with smilely faces infront of a box with a triangle on the top in the most fun and messy way possible.
I’d be very carful of taking an attitude where nothing is original because its been done before as well, that kind of thinking is the reason the traditional art scene is on its arse driven by elitist critics while most of us who would have dreamed of having pictures hung in galleries had we lived 100 years ago call ourselves designers rather than artists. Originality is nice but it shouldn’t take presidence over talent and ability.
Then we are agreed…we form an angry mob and hang the
kid.
Ropes are cheap here.
I think some of your egos are writing checks you can’t cash. You are making some seriously large leaps, in that you believe the best is yet to come. I have 25 years in the business, and if what some of you are alluding towards were true, guys like me would have very little to worry about from competition from you younger folks. Of course, what do I know. Not that I’m complaining in anyway, I see it as the natural order of all things in the universe. Those young stars sure do burn bright.
We don’t hang the kid?
(maybe just a little?)
Oh hell, yeah, let’s just hang the kid and play pinata!
Great!!!
Aluminum bats are on sale.
( hate cute kids anyway!)
I’m from Europe… the tradition forces me to call for a public impalement…
Lemo
PS:Where is cousin Vlad when you need him…
He’s waiting for you to invite him into your house.
LOL Bicc. I know I have a bat around here somewhere but it’s wood!
Hmmm Egos. I think I had one of those for breakfast hehe. Good with coffee
Jason, I never cash a check when I don’t have any money in the bank to back it up. I am 49 and have been a hobbyist for years. I don’t claim pro status. Any creative projects I indulge myself in are done because I enjoy learning and doing. I don’t have to worry about the younger guys. All I have to worry about is how many crickets I have in the bait box
(semi retired) You seem rather paranoid about the younger guys but need I remind you they arent children. They are full grown with a much larger arsenal of tools than they had when they were say, 5 or 6. On the other hand there you are with something they don’t have in spite of that newly acquired tool set. You have experience. Maybe one day when they reach your age they will be able to catch up to the level of experience you have now but by then? You will be retired and fishing or swinging a golf club! :D

Hey Guys I just wrote about a study published in a magazine , don’t get carried away. I dont even have a wooden bat
Tartan what I meant by creativity is on the universal level and not just individual level.
When u say “I did it my way” it pertains the method which you took to show people your creativity and doesnt pertain to creativity itself.
I am not talking about zbrush, or such software tools which give us today the abilty to create awesome graphics, I am not even talking about designing. I am talking about "creativity in our lives ".
The point here is as you said it is experince which makes a man. When the person grows old the only thing he has with him is the experience he collected over his life time.
This experience matters to all of us because life teaches us with help of “trial and error method” and its this experince which is a boon for us as well as a curse.
an example.
A man standing on a cross road with 4 roads going in 4 directions without meeting each other, he could choose any direction to proceed in life. Thats what we all do take one road and stick to it because with time we gain experince and become more confident of it and even start succeeding.
But how many of us come back to the crossroad and start exploring the other roads ?
we dont do it maybe because we fear the unkown on the other roads or we are suceeding in this road and think its no need to switch tracks.
But its possible those other roads would have given us much more experince, more success and maybe even failures. We go deprived of that experience and this is our biggest curse in life.
If you are designer will you think of becoming an astonaut ? logically it sounds illogical
This is the reason why pople say failures are pillars of success because a person who has failure in one field will come back to that crossroad and either start again on the same road or take a new road.
Over time he will have more experince then a normal person who choose one road, succeeded in it and went along.
If you think experince defines creativity then we all lack it if we just keep going on one road.
Here children are lucky because they lack experince . Thats why they can take any road they want and have ample time to come back and take another . They only disadvantage they have is lack of skill and intelligence .
But then many scientists are currently working on child brain, maybe in future they will create a hardware/software which will impart adult intelligence in a child brain - making them super children who can do things which we adults cannot even imagine to do
Then you people need to look for some kind of weapons - even steel bats wont help
small_orange_diamond
Cube pusher understanding tools is about learning a particual skill with the intelligence and experince you have aquired with time and does not reflect the creativity you have. There are thousands who use zbrush but cannot create some design of very high level like many of senior members here.
As said what matters here is the experince and that experince needs to grow not in one field but in many fields, that will define a part of your creativity.
believe it or not thinking is not directly proportional to creativity (but thats another sensitive topic shouldnt start it here now)
Regarding the attitude, thats what exactly I wanna say , we need to be carefull of not doing the same thing again and again , most of the time we are helpless about it because either clients wants the same thing , whole market is wanting the same thing or sometimes we need to do it to feed our own stomach and fullfill our basic needs/luxuries… at the end today to every youngster what matters is to be settled in life, get a cool spouse and enjoy life. ironically we realize a lot later that we curbed our original creativty somewhere
Ok I know you people are ready to hit me with a bat before that child, So enough for now.
this one post is going to go very long, whos on my side - only Jason ?
You knew I had to reply to this didn’t you Wicked? Yer Sneaky
“When u say “I did it my way” it pertains the method which you took to show people your creativity and doesnt pertain to creativity itself.”
Of course it has to do with creativity Wicked
Many and varied are the paths to ummmmmmmm Final Result and Final Results are not the same for all people
How you take that path is entirely up to you and the results while Similar are totally original. Perhaps pointilism vs cubism as a stark example or perhaps a mixture. Having experience means you have at your fingertips a combination of techniques to bring vison to fruition. If I sit down to paint Mona Lisa do you think I would do it the way leonardo did? I certainly hope not. I will do it “My Way” Course shes dead now and that point may be moot.
“The point here is as you said it is experince which makes a man. When the person grows old the only thing he has with him is the experience he collected over his life time.”
Ahh but the point is not only does man have that experience he can Still follow the Muses wherever they choose to lead him. Experience brings advantage but the creative spark is Always operative and Experience is Not the only thing he has with him. It just gives him a more weathered view
On your crossroads analogy, don’t you realize that crossroads are with us every waking moment in life? Each second we have presents the oppurtunity to take a different road and sometimes we may be just sightseeing until we get back to what we were doing and Want to do. Comics anyone? In my case a Novel?
“If you think experince defines creativity then we all lack it if we just keep going on one road”
I never said experience defines creativity it merely enhances it. Experience gives advantage. And I Hate staying on the same road and Love sightseeing
And trust me I have a Lot of experience taking different roads
Wicked, Children do Not have the advantage in creativity. I am free and often do follow the muses and the paths I take with that creativity are not hindered because I am an adult. I have to chuckle at that.
Can we agree to have the right to disagree? lol
Now where’s my bat at!
Yeah!!! Coincidence and retribution is at hand.
The beach has just announced the same contest for this year.
Design next years beach badge!!!
The prize is two complimentary beach badges ( worth about $140.00
dollars)
All entries become the property of the beach.
Deadline is August 15.
If you wish you may mail your nonreturnable entries to:
Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association
Attn Beach 54, Pitman Ave.
Ocean Grove, NJ 07756.
Should I enter again?
Should you?
Post it as challenge! Any case… what are the dimensions?
Lemo
Any Size, they suggest smaller vs larger.
I would, of course, buy the winning badges, quietly.
Good Heavens… The contest is starting again? Good thing I prefer the mountains hehe. Bicc, dammit. Submit something to them. Win or lose who cares? I guess I Do know a bit about egos. I often let it get in my way until I summon the will to strike it off the path. In my case it’s damn hard to have an ego when you have nothing to have an ego about lol. Somehow I manage
I think Lemo is right and it would be a fun thing. Do a challenge in the challenge forum and bring the Bats!

Tartan my friend, if you only knew me. Paranoid is not a term that could ever be applied. Interesting interpretation though.
Are you sure it’s creativity and not development by experience, result of the production line approach, with minor fixes over the years? I find the spark of youth to be creative, without influence. I find through observation that the older you get, the more you are influenced by experience and knowledge and little of it is truly and honestly spark of creativity. Over the years for various companies I have had the pleasure of many talented people working for and with me - in several industries. To this day, little evidence stands to demand the reversal of these thoughts. Whether it be friends who are artists for life and in their 60s with recognition on 4 continents, industrial designers with 45 years experience, producers, directors, animation wizards from ILM with 30 years, young people fresh out of school, young people with a few years practice under their belts, or those little people we are contemplating whacking with bats mentioned above - it has held true. I am in no waying saying we as a group aging are incapable of doing great things as time passes, just that it is not creativity as much as experience. Perhaps the initial assumption of the definition is the issue. Perhaps I’m just ruffling feathers because I can.
Either way man, your work is great and appreciated as are your views. My bait box is always full, fly-fishing?
