DinoZZaurs

This is my depiction of how Carnotuaurus could look if it had feather filament. The smaller one, with the crest is a male, the bigger, dull chick in the background is a female. Male is trying to impress the female just like the modern birds are with all kinds of noises, dance moves and messed up hairstyles. Until another male arrives and the two of them pluck each others brains out.
Now, I know all about what was discovered next to the 2/3 of a single Carnotaurus skeleton ever dug out. This feathery concept is me being inspired after reading great article I found online about feathers in dinosaurs, I recommend it, it’s a good read for anyone with some paleontology aspirations: On feathers fleas and big stem birds

High five for feathers bud…

Its a hard sell convincing people that Jurassic park isnt fact.

So many papers and discoveries coming to light at the moment showing even triceratops had back plumage.

Ahh well…people thought the world was flat for thousands of years

Peter

LOL! That’s true! Our knowledge grows and with it our perception of things changes. Some can go with the flow, some simply drown.

Not entirely accurate, psittacosaurus and tianyulong are the only ones with preserved quill imprints. Most paleontologists have taken the position that this is a basal trait, in all the imprints from more advanced ceratopsians, quills have been all but vacant. It can be assumed that the gene could turn on and off, but its far from confirmed on triceratops.

@a i r: Wonderful work by the way. I’d love to hear your workflow on the feathers if you wouldn’t mind, especially in regards to the wings. I’m working on a velociraptor right now to practice my techniques in regards to feathers, it’d be awesome if you could share how you got such convincing results.

Really beautiful work in this thread. Great dino sculpts and really stunning final comps.

Cheers,
Josh

Christmasaurus Rex, the Red-headed Tyrant

T’was the night before Christmas
And Santa was dead,
Tyrannosaurus has grabbed him
And chewed off his head.

The reindeer came next,
Their antlers crunched.
The sleigh bells fell silent
Each one of them lunch.

The elves in their workshop,
Tried their best to fight back.
But their efforts were futile,
When the theropod attacked.

Now the snow has all melted,
And men run in fear.
Tyrannosaur has ended,
This years Christmas cheer.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!
Some tech behind this image: Tyrannosaurus Rex modeled and textured in Zbrush.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hi Zbrush fellas.
This paleoart was created in mid 2014.
Illustration depicts Tyrannosaurus rex attempt at hunting down adult male Triceratops.
Fossilized records in form of bite marks across Triceratops frill and horns tell us this scenario most likely happened.
Illustration was made for the ongoing book project titled “Super Predator; The World Of Tyrannosaurus rex” authored by Mr. Mike Kelly.
This illustration first emerged in the Prehistoric Times Magazine #114, and now it can be seen here on Zbrush Central.
It was created using couple of digital techniques. There are 3d modeled dinosaurs that were sculpted and textured inside Zbrush, later exported and rigged, reposed in 3ds max and rendered with MR. Finally all of the material was taken to Adobe Photoshop where it was composed together with some personal photographic elements for the background.
Bellow are also some wip shots I chose to add with the finalized piece.
Cheers!

:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1: Great models and scene !

Hello
Here’s a crop from my latest paleo piece.
All dinosaurs modeled, retopoed, uvw-ed and textured in zbrush.

Scene depicts pack of adult Tyrannosaurs eating Triceratops whom they previously hunted down and killed.
Tyrannosaurus in this crop is just about to finish gulping down large piece of caudal muscle with a piece of torn skin and flesh hanging to the side of his snout.
Heavy Injury caused by Triceratops horn during one of previous hunts caused an eye infection to this Tyrannosaurus, which resulted in permanent blindness to his left eye.

Reposting an appropriate poem as well:

T’was the night before Christmas
And Santa was dead,
Tyrannosaurus has grabbed him
And chewed off his head.

The reindeer came next,
Their antlers crunched.
The sleigh bells fell silent
Each one of them lunch.

The elves in their workshop,

Happy holidays everyone!
