My new book, “Modeling Digital Dinosaurs” is now shipping! I’m very excited and please with the results.

It will be in stores in a week, but it can be ordered from www.charlesriver.com www.amazon.com will carry it too.

Read up on the contents there, or on my site, www.brilliant-creations.com

Thank you in advance to those who choose to make a purchase. I wrote the type of book I would find exciting and I hope others will as well.

(I haven’t read any rules for this forum on the alloted number of plugs we’re allowed, so just put me down for 1)

Plug away, Matey! I’ll be getting this book for sure, having seen your work…A book by you is bound to be a goldmine of technique!

Wow, that looks great Ken! I hope I can get one soon!

Count me in, too. I saw the section on this on your website. At first, when I saw the pic of the cover in this thread, I thought “Wait a minute…I’ve heard of this book before.” Duh, it was on your site! Can’t wait to see it in the store, Ken.

Ken, Congratulations!!! Im sure this will be helpful to all!

Hi KenB,
how much of the book is useful for ZUser ?
There is a CD inside?
What about the price ?
Have you wrote other books ?

Thank You

cameyo

p.s. you are one of the best artist (almost for me)

Cameyo,

To the exclusively ZBrush users, the book will seem to have initially limited information that would apply to working in ZB. The models are constructed in the more “traditional” 3D programs.

But ZB does use formulas, such as subdivision routines, to smooth the surface of the model. This is much like the subdivision modes of other programs. The book goes into understanding and controling this, so having knowledge here will help you in ZB (it’s helped me) especially when working with low-poly models or importing models from other programs.

If you plan to paint textures in ZB on imported models, the book will be helpful in setting up UV coordinates, which will make a huge difference in preventing the dreaded color streaking and distortion.

There is a CD inside.
The price is $49.95 US (I see it on amazon.com for $34.95)
I haven’t written a book before, but I have written magazine articles.

Ken, that is outstanding news! I’ve been looking forward to the release of this book since I first heard about it. The dinosaur side of it sounds like a lot of fun, but more than that I’m looking forward simply to the insights into how one of the digital masters works.

I hope you sell lots of copies!

Congrats on the book Aurick. I know what a thrill it is and hope you enjoy that rush for a very long time and sales soar ~s~

Congratulations on your book Ken! I say plug away. Especially if it’s something that can help us all in our modeling skills and how we approach 3d. I’m sure it’s a winner!

Adman

For some reason, though the price WAS $34.95 at Amazon, they bumped the price up to $49.95.

Barnes & Noble has it at $39.96.

BUT Buy.com has it for
$34.46!!! But it isn’t YET in stock!

That’s where I’m ordering MY copy! Thank you Ken for writing what looks to be an awesome book!

I just wanted to add that this is a fantastic book. Thanks Ken for such a detailed look at polygonal modeling and texturing techniques.

Although it’s not software specific, most of the examples are done using lightwave. I primarily use Wings 3D so I was unable to follow some of the techniques but thanks again Ken for turning me on to Metasequoia. What a wonderful free program. It allows me to do some of the operations I can’t in Wings.

Just curious, were any of the color photos in Digital Dinosaurs produced with ZBrush? I recall seeing one of the images on the ZBrush site.

Fantastic. I was about to email you asking when this little Gem was previewing and here it is.

Do you know if I can order it in the UK? Searching Amazon.co.uk doesn’t seem to yeild a result.

Fantastic news!!!

EDIT: I got it!!! Searching for your name. I want to be the first to review it…
And it’s a snip 28pounds sterling.

Glen

draz,

Some of the modeling and the texturing on the stegosaurus in the color section were done with the help of Zbrush. It was all rendered in Lightwave.

Glad you like the book! I really like Metasequoia too. It has some features that I wish Lightwave had! It goes to show you that you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to produce 3D models.
