Hi all,
I’m a software junky, and this morning I’ve been working with the Amorphium 3 demo.
Its big feature, “Tin” is a complete subdivision modeler with edge and loop selection. While not as elegantly implemented as Zspheres, for $139-$149, A3’s modeler is fairly close to (and, with respects to edge selection, surpasses) Lightwave’s modeler, and seems to complement Zbrush’s tools nicely.
Though I see a button for converting imported meshes into “Tin” objects, the demo will not import objects, so I’m not sure how effective it is. But, “Tin” modeling itself is quite a bit of fun, and, at least for me, a little more intuitive than the Lightwave modeler.
Plus, A3 renders out nicely to Flash (vector) format.
The downsides so far are that it requires Quicktime, and launches automatically each time your computer starts up. Other than that, it seems very stable and easy to use.
While we all wait for Zbrush’s next upgrade, I think A3 can keep us all from getting a little cranky.
Also, here’s hoping ZBrush 2.0 will include similiar features
