Hello!
I did this for a friend who's a Tenchi fan, so it's a bit more gratuitous than my usual stuff. It was difficult integrating an anime look into my style so I'm not sure I succeeded. Comments and crits welcome! *edit 9-17-07: This is a later version, older versions appear below and throughout the thread. You can see the final version at my DeviantArt site: http://gapriest.deviantart.com/art/Ryoko-64973633* (Older versions with original post): ZBrush+Photoshop (ended up reworking the mouth quite a bit in post) Some work on the hair: (a lot like Sonic the Hedgehog, lol) Wires: Different renders used: (from an older version--reworked the expression) And an older version: (I wanted to soften the expression so I opened the mouth) Thanks for looking! i like this ... it would realy shine fully textured and rendered using mental ray or somthing of that standard,,i get a feeling the hair could use some more work, just a bit. i love seeing people meshes to see the low rez ver from zbrush. im in the middle of my first full zbrush model..ill show when its finished..keep up the cool work
btw the highlight on her ass is a nice touch

Fantasic version of her! The only think I would do is add some cloth texture to her clothes, so they stick out more from the skin. The face is incredible.

I'm a huge Tenchi fan and an even bigger Ryoko fan! Such a fan that I have a tattoo of her on my arm from shoulder to elbow. I think you have a great start that only needs some minor tweaking!
The hair shapes are totally wicked and the form is seriously all there. I would try to make it look more like hair though. Retain the form, but accent it better and have it extend more outward so it looks more like hair. Also, try to make the bangs flow into the other shapes more like you did on her long sideburn pieces. The new brushes available and some alpha tweaking can make this super easy for you The pose is great! Totally Ryoko. I would exaggerate it just a little bit more. Lean forward more, spread out the feet and put the hand a little higher on the hip and you're dead on for an excellent pose! I like how you tried to make her look more like she really is from Japan with her body and neck line. I think it would do justice as a whole to continue it into her face. Adjust the nose so theres no slits on the side and size down the eyes a bit. Even though it's anime, the iris is just a bit too big. It might just be the angle her head is turned, but the rest of her looks so good I think you could seriously take it somewhere and still keep it looking anime. It's always been the eyes and the hair in anime that help identify it as such, so those should be your focus points, but at the stage you're at, I would push it to more of a realistic side as the body looks more realistic than the rest of her it just throws it off a bit. It's a fine line, but I think you're damn close to spot on for a perfect interpretation! I hope you continue to work on this one! Can't wait to see the final result! |

Thanks for the great replies, guys!
Frenchy: Thanks! jadedsoul: no mental ray for me. I try to keep my stuff pretty stylized cuz I don't really have any other 3D packages.womball: thanks! I was originally gonna experiment with some cloth textures but I think I got lazy. Firerbert: Wow! You are a fan. Thanks for all the suggestions. Don't know that'll actually do more work on this--it's already eaten up much of my time, but I'll think about everything you've said. I might try some of the stuff I can do in post, as redoing and tweaking the renders would be very time consuming. As for the irises, I made them vertical ovals like the anime version of her because I thought circles wouldn't look anime enough. Thanks again for all the great observations! |

WOW! Very nice!! Tenchi Muyo (OVA, Universe and Ryo Ohki) is one of my favorite animes as well. You definately captured her personality and look. She would look cool with her red jewel ear rings. Should be easy to do in post, just a suggestion, keep up the great work!!!

Hi again!
Decided to try out some of the suggestions I've been given. Not sure if it's better, but I think it has more of Ryoko's attitude. Let me know what you think! Jaidek: Thanks! I didn't find any images with red earrings when I scoured the internet for reference. Would have been nice to try though. Dinky777, piz: Thanks! |

Here are a few images I have found with the earrings. They are pretty much just floating red glass spheres. Just thought it would be a nice addition. Keep up the great work!

Another update.
Thanks for the pics, Jaidek. I feel like this might be the last update tho--my rating actually dropped last time so I feel like I'm beating a dead horse. ![]() I've been messing with this thing far too long anyway. Time to move on. Thanks for the suggestions everyone! FLIK: Thanks! |
