So I went to Hawaii last month and was kind of sucked in by that part of the world. On my friends advice, I built a really tall rock cairn on the northern coast of Maui. These cairns are supposed to grant wishes, so I made a few.
![]() One of the wishes was for inspiration. When I got home I started to think about nothing but Tiki gods and carvings and such. I even made Tikis the focus of my presentation at the Gnomon live event. I also airbrushed this on a blank wall in our Tiki-hut - NO-MON the TIKI God of Knowledge: Here are a few test images as I was creating the main Tiki characters:
![]() _ ![]() - ![]() - ![]() - ![]() - ![]() - ![]() - And then when I was just starting to make an image with the tools, I got a call from the Creation Engine company, a software reseller. They wanted me to design a cover, but only had a few days before they needed some artwork to go to print with. So I came up with this image: ![]() <Link to high res> A few close-ups:
![]() - ![]() - ![]() - The materials are a combination of my own library and some of the mystical Jantim materials, that have been changed and tweaked over a few generations. Jantims materials are easily the best, he just hit them perfectly, and I've learned a lot from using them. Anyway, I would love to get some feedback on this image. The guy picking his teeth makes me giggle. I did it so quickly that I didn't realise that he was so cute until they sent me the cataloge in the mail. ![]() Last edited by Meats Meier : 12-12-05 at 05:47 PM. |

Right on, Tiki Gods Rule! I love all the inspiration brought on by the Tiki Bar and the Hawaii trip... Glad I could watch all this first hand being that I live at the Workshop just as you do! I will have your environment sphere of the Tiki Lounge finished today so you can expand even more with the TIKI GODS!!!!!!

Good concept and very funny. I like mostly the Tiki's with the Jantim Wood Shader.
Great work as always. Cheers Ralf Stumpf |

Its really nice to see this. I think I have seen enough monsters, humanoids and abstractions to last the rest of my life. This is a fresh and fun theme you found that lends its self nicely to the modeling abilities of Zbrush.. Nice looking work. If you make a relief style Tiki carving, I will cut the sculpture on a CNC machine for you if I can have a copy for my self..

Awesome job on the mural! It looks like it's sculpted from the wall. Great character in your Tikis as well.

5 stars from me. (although to be fair you don't need them as we all now how good you are anyway LOL)
It's almost as if the characters in those renders 'have a soul' if you know what I mean. They seem more than just CG characters always the sign of a great peice. Everytime I see some of your work it makes me realise just how much you can do creativly with Zbrush and 3D in general. I must say the lighting in those shots is top class! Wayne... |
