Hi guys I'm new here.
I am a fairly talented artist, but I have no formal training. After reading and watching tons about zbrush it seems to me that zbrush is like drawing in 3d. I was wondering provided I find Zbrush to be exactly what I'm looking for what really goes into breaking into the industry. I'd love to end up a 3d modeler/ concept artist. |

Zbrush is a sculpting application. While it has its tremendous use I suggest you start learning a general 3d app like 3ds max, maya, xsi etc. or if you're short on dough blender is an excellent program.

Get used to it man. I know it's intimidating initially but in the end if you are going to be a modeler it's not a ton to learn using XSI/Max/Maya. Concept art can entail painting over zbrush sculpts, straight 2d renderings in photoshop, photo manip etc etc. You'll use a broad range of techniques to accomplish your goals which typically involve more than just zbrush for whichever field you delve into. Just take it one step at a time, be persistant and if you are passionate about this stuff you'll eventually get a job doing it. |

Your work must meet the standards set in the top row gallery or exceed it. And you need good contacts. Otherwise line up in the 900 mile long queue....

Plus the rollercoaster is out of order at the moment so youd better wait
a little before you start queuing.

It's fun to sculpt in Zbrush obviously = great fun actually but at the end of the day you'd have to deliver an animatable mesh which can be easily rigged and textured and will have to work with other assets in the pipeline [which means confirm with other people's and apps' technical requirenments].... It has to be both pretty and functional ![]() |

![]() does age count ? (when your applying your first job). cause after reading this reply im thinking we must spend quite lot of time practice so we can compete. so it would be better for me to know the time limit and kick my a**.![]() thanks.

Employers cannot discriminate by age. And only a fool would reject a quality modeler because of age, gender, religion, and so on....
Consider training with a mentor or at a school as you will not challenge yourself or learn new stuff when studying alone. Studying alone will make you focus on the 'stuff' you like and not necessarily on the progress. Rainer

Yea...I was gonna enroll in an online program and get some more technical training and work for the next five years or so on building skills and knowledge and a portfolio.....and pretty much everything else associated with that.
I'm a High School teacher right now and I'm desperate to eventually break into something a little more creative. |
