Red face Solidsnakexxx's Sketchbook

Man(and woman).... After the ZBC Action Hero Contest, believe it or not I'm having the contest syndrome.....as for the past 45+ days I would rush home and do the daily sculpt.... Now that the contest's closed... I feel like a part of me's missing. Not sure whether this syndrome's occurring to other contestants or not. The other thing is I'm kind of miss other contestants...Frankly speaking the contest has given me one of the best online community experiences ever. I've got to meet many new cool friends and have learned a lot from reading their threads.

Anyhow, I decided to create one of my own's sketchbook thread. I'll post the works I could share that doesn't violate the MOU and also some works that I've been learnign from my master, Alex Oliver.

I'll start with this Guy. The Ogre from McFarlane’s Fantasy: Legend of the Bladehunter (http://www.spawn.com/TOYS/product.aspx?product=3493) I purchased this action figure from the mall a few months back to specifically use for the sculpting class.

This model's not exact from the action figure persay as I did so for more like a quick sculpt which I use to teach my students about ZBrush features such as Primitives, Subtools and Transpose. The entire process was about 2-3 hours.

For the next posts, I'll also try to find the WIP models which I saved the progression.

Red face The ZSphere Process of the Ogre

selwy:
Thank you for such a kind comment. You are one of my great inspirations...Your work on Disunion's spectacular... I used you model to show my students awhile back..(http://zbrusher.wordpress.com/2008/...disunion_selwy/) .

Moni-Poroni:
Hey there....glad to see you here, Moni-Poroni..... (^_^) The contest syndrome.... I have...quite embarrassing to say I miss you, my friend! I think if the contest do run a little longer...I'll be in deep trouble...and would be needing a "post rehab" This model's used to demonstrate at the University I teach. and yes, the turn table can be found in the main ZBrush turn table page. I also look forward to see your thread, Moni-Poroni.

undoz:
Thank you for your kind words. I think McFarlane stuff are real cool for ZBrush practice as they are quite economically reasonable (US$9-16) and you can see the ref from all angles..

kaarthikeyan:

Thank you so much. i'll try to post my new stuff here....as I'm a post addict now.....

Dryn:
Thank you so much, sir. Glad you like it.

The ZSphere Process:
The start of this model's real simple. Of course it's made with ZSphere. Very simple one...I did capture the process...In the vid you will see I was experimenting and showing trails and errors with ZSphere... and get my students to be familiar with the concept of ZSphere.

Good to see you have started your thread! The ogre looks real cool. And in 2-3 hours? That's really fast.

I agree about the community spirit of the contest. And going home to work on my entry. But now it's over I have found myself relaxing instead. But hopefully not for too long as I want to finish some other things. It has made me want to post on here and comment a lot more on other people's threads though

Looking forward to seeing your updates!

I agree, the contest also put me in a mind to be more active around here, and do more sculpting myself. Definitely a nice side-effect.

Really nice sculpt, especially for 2-3 hours!! I hope you post more recordings soon.

Hey Solid! I'm so glad to see you started up this thread, and I'm shure I'm not the only one! You know it's all your fault, after that stunt you pulled off on the contest (the great sculpt, the frequent updates, taking time to reply to everyone, commenting and encouraging other contestants - the two heads & four arms thing...) ! !

I think the contest syndrome hit me too - and I wasn't even competing... .

Great kick off with the ogre sculpt, and thank you for sharing the video!

Already lookin' forward to seeing more! But, Solid, don't forget to eat and sleep occasionally... . !

Default Form Blocking

Captain Sensible:
Yeah finally ...a thread of my own. It was fun teaching ZBrush as a tool to sculpt. I'm trying to bring ZBrush into my company's production pipeline as well. I think we will benefit a lot from its great features and capabilities. And ZBC's my second home aside from the physical one I live in. And Pixologic have donea wonderful job in making this place so great...So great that now I'ma ZBC addict hehehe

Mysfyt:
you are absolutely right...man.... Addiction is the side effect.

BradMick:
Thank you BradMick. Yes... this project I tried to use every knowledge I know about ZBrush to sculpt and not using external application. Forcing yourself to do so will definitely make you learn ZBrush real well I think. As before I'd resort to Silo for base mesh and such.

Etcher:
Hey Etcher glad to have you here i'll try to post up all the steps I did for this guy. Man I thought I was the only one with the syndrome...glad that I have friends witht eh same symtom...hehehe ...Also I jsut ate dinner so I have more energy now Thanks mate.

Form Blocking Stage:
After the ZSphere creation, I simply made the adaptive skin as polymesh3D then start blocking out the form. Basically all I did was using Move Brush....I tried to stay at the lowest possible subdivision level to get to the form I want....before moving up a step. The brushes I generally use for form build up are standard brush, clay and clay tube.

Here's the result of this step:

And the vid for this process:

(BTW, does anyone know how to post image and not having it be the small thumbnail on teh second row? I don't want to eat up spaces for my only post)

After inserting the image and before actually submitting the post, change the image tags from ATT and /ATT to ATN and /ATN. ZBC will make a thumbnail from the first image in each post with an ATT tag. It ignores all ATN tags. So you can also use this to control which image in a post is the one that's used for the thumbnail.
