Had a nice birthday, so I decided to take the weekend off.

Though Comic Con was a nice change of pace.

Anywho I didn't do much, but I did play a bit:

here I made the guy more horny :P

    The horns aren't done yet

Here I'm taking De Spain's head concept and trying to feel out more of a body that would suite the head. I felt too much like two sculptors shaking hands before rather than one model

    Nice.
Top critter reminds me of Neville's Caudal Luring Concept.
And those horns are like stone. Really cool.

    thanks

the dragon's head is based on Nick De Spain's quick sketch, linked on the previous page.

though the dude you linked me too might help me finish this damned thing haha. I don't know exactly where to take him :P

    Default Adjust the alien

I decided to pull out one of the beta models and try to improve it. I first added asymmetry and adjusted skin detail using the same technique as my demon dude before.

And YES I will have a tutorial up soon, stop asking :P

Then I decided to work with tendrils and off shoots. I reworked the silhouette and I gotta say I like it

I'm still playing with the rough idea, but I just wanted to mark down where I was heading. Then I'll take everything into maya

and just to show a bit of skin I attached it without any texture

    a quick update:

This time I decided to push the falic nature of his head (a trick I like to employ, immediately gives the creature a foreboding sense) I also gave some weight to the back of the skull.

I also adjusted the skin's bumps, and played with the clay modifier in regards to the armor

I should note this is a POTENTIAL UPDATE, just playing with the form, pulling here pushing there. Just want to see where this goes.

My thinking though is that I'm going to lose the upper tentacle things from his head

    Default skin detailing

Okay so heres what I promised you...sorta. I've been getting messages asking me about the skin on the demon.

So I didn't really know how else to describe it other than doing a really quick sketch from a sphere

this is about an 35 min compressed into a 10 min vid, so its not like super fast you can see stuff.

*EDIT: Updated image with newer file

    Original is attached below

Here the vid I recomend fullscreening it:

I used only the move, claybuildup and DSstandard

Looks cool - couple of suggestions: I think it might help to vary the surface treatment a little. If the skin was a little smoother on the forehead and cheekbones it would help give the impression it's being pulled tight by gravity. As it now, the fine detail turns into noise rather than information. Also, the face wrinkles feel pretty good, but I think I can still see brush strokes under the detail on the top of the head.

I agree with you on all points. this wasn't supposed to be finished piece, rather a sculpt demonstrating the skin technique I used on the demon at the top of the thread.

hey thanks! I hated the render I did, so I guess I'll just leave it for now.

I mean it was only a half hour sketch (well like 45 min if you include the new tweaks I did) so its no biggie. idk if its worth finishing.

I mean I don't really know where to take it. I thought about putting it in a floating sort of disc, have him like hovering. Do some hard surface to contrast the warm bumpy skin. but idk. If anyone has any ideas I'm down to hear em

    and a turntable for now:

I'm also trying out some horn styles on the demon, Idk if this works but I like the texture. I might use the shape from before with this texture
