    Default ScrapPile's Sketchbook

    HelmetWIPZbrushThumb.jpg

Hi Everyone, I felt it's finally time to start my sketchbook on here, as everyone else I have been a little self-conscious to post but I think it's time since I have graduated now and will be searching vigorously for a career!

Here is a WIP of my newest piece that I just started 2 Days ago, been sick though so progress has been a little slow

This concept is done by the great Andrew Ley which I found over at ConceptArt.org here and I take absolutely no credit for his work whatsoever.

Here is my process, it's my first time working with ZSpheres so I think i didn't handle them quite correctly by making a cage like I did, suggestions on this would be appreciated.

This is a slightly more recent image of it, currently in a sketching phase still but I feel it is really taking on the likeness quite well.

As always I am very much looking for comments and critiques please!

Thanks for looking, one last thing if anyone has a problem with me linking to my site on my images let me know and I'll gladly remove it.

it's not even worth it to spend so much time making the cage in zsphere, and using zsketches to put in the detail..

try to get use to use the move brush to rough out the shape you want, then use clay brush to build up the forms. It would be 100x faster than your method.

ify ou want hard edge, try to use hpolish/trimdynamic/pinch to create the edge you want.

    looking forward to see more.

Thank you very much I am indeed going to be using hpolish extensively, however in the stage i'm at it's not ready yet. I am interested in the method you are talking about, what would I rough the shape out of? A sphere or a cube? I felt that a cube or sphere wouldn't have enough faces in the right places and it would get too stretched to be usable, I know I could go up in subdivisions. but I still felt this method would give me trouble. The way I plan to handle it next time is to make a large zsphere for his head and then a few basic spheres for the rest of the "armor" thanks for the suggestions!

a sphere would be the ideal basemesh since it has way less extreme vertixies .

zbrush an extremely flexible program especially when it comes to polycounts. Technically, a simple zsphere would be all you need to create any complex thing. It is more than enough to let you build a helmet or head.

However, if you are serious about learning zbrush, i would strongly recommend you to look for tutorials online to get you start in the right direction. There are quite a few intro to zbrush tutorials out there, you can probably get one for around 50 bucks. I used Ryan Kingslien's introduction to zbrush 3 half a year ago when i started to learn zbrush. The content is a bit dated now, but its workflow and principle is still the same, and i find them very useful. You can check it out when you have time.
