Smile Need advice on my character design

hey guys, new to z brush need some advice!

trying to get into character design, I've got decent knowledge of 3d max, and basic knowledge of z brush, anyway here is my work so far created using zspheres:

    test 1.jpg

    1. anyone know any good tutorials on how to draw hands, feet, and face shape?

    2. I know I'm working with millions of polygons with this drawing but I want to be able to animate it in 3d max. Is there anyway of optimizing the drawing to have all the details but to have lower poly's?

    3. Any good tutorials on uvmapping and creating clothing for a character?

    4. tell me what i'm doing wrong so far, and what's right! i have alot to learn about anatomy and i'm reading books these days lol

Thanks for any help you guys can give me in advance! this stuff is hard but i will get to you guys stage eventually!

    Hi mansim,

1st. your in the wrong forum. Here is the Sculptris Area and not the ZBrush.
There you may get more tips about ZBrush themes.

2nd. About some Tutorials about Hands, Feets and Heads. My tip is to go to Youtube or Vimeo and search for Hand/ Feet/ Headsculpting i bet you will find some tutorials or Screencaps. Then gather some Reference on the net or from Books (Anathomy for Artists or Drawing books) and study the forms.
If you can spend some Money, buy some of the Gnomon/ Gnomonology or Digital Tutors DVDs or tutorials. Normaly they are realy worth it.

    3th.

    test 1 Anatomy.jpg

    -Head is to round
-Hands and Feet are to small
-You only posted front view, but i belive the body is not curved enough. He looks to straight.
-Front and back of the torso is not the same. Front more boxy, back more triangle shaped.
    - Take a good look at the form of the Arms and Legs. Yours are not curved enought.

    4th Keep on sculpting

You have hands and feet at your disposal everyday. Draw your own hands and feet, do one drawing a day for a month. Alternate from drawing a hand and a foot for each day, make sure to tackle a different pose every time. Hide your previous drawings, and take a look at them at the end of the month. Spot any mistakes you are repeating and repeat!

    Default face arghhh!!!

hey guys I'm really struggling on the face, epically the lips.. the thing is I'm working with millions of polys but for some reason it didn't spread out correctly to the fact, so I'm having a hard to sculpting the lips.. any advice guys?!

also I'm thinking of creating the eyes in 3d max so I can animate them (but I will obviously turn the sub layer back down to a poly count which is able to animate heh) your advice if this is a good idea also?

    thanks guys

Cool quads ... if only we could!

Wow cool trick using quads in Sculptris! I suspect that you should post this on the Zbrush Main Forum.

Have a nice day all the same.

Hi mansim, when i was trying out ZBrush i was working with the lowest Subdivision level to sculpt the base of the lips. Then i was dividing it up to refine them. If you work on the low SubD Object, you can controll the Polys realy good with the Move Brush! In ZB its actually best to start with low SubD to make the ruff model, then if the form is what you want go up with the SubD level and refine it.

If you were using Sculptris, you could have those polys distributed exactly how you wanted them the first time.

Use photo reference when working always. Even for aliens and monsters. It makes a big difference.

Yeah aliens are very hard to find
Best you can do is to use Google. http://www.google.co.uk/images?q=ali...w=1514&bih=666

Then use the images to kickstart your imagination thats to say do not copy then too closely for copyright reasons.

I mean animals or people. Like if you are doing something that is Rhino like but has some human aspects to it, use reference of those animals. It makes things more realistic and gives you a map of where to start.

For me, if I don't have reference, things tend to come out looking the same.
