    Really nice stumpf!

May I ask a question about your Tiger Hawk tutorial? How did you achieve the joints between the wings and body in step 2? It just says 'remesh all (res 256) and group loops' what does this mean? How did you create the curved fileted joint between the wing and fuselage? Is this some special tool maya has?

Hello, many thanks for your comments.

I try to answer some questions:

The eyes are simple modeled but because they are always so important
for the final look I improve them in post.

I render a separate shadow pass and the shader I build for this is
    optimized for big renders.

A video tutorial is great but a lot..lot of work. You don't get back the money
you spend on time and effort. After a few weeks you find your tutorial in the
internet and most people try to download this for free.

Remesh all is a boolean operation in ZBrush and you can improve the quality
with the res slider. Group loops in ZBrush creates edge-loops between
    poly groups.

I made no wip images in this project but if I find the time I try to make some.
Or I made it for the next project.

    Cheers

    Default I hear you Stumpf

About the video tutorial, but if you're afraid about getting back the money on effort you spent doing it..then make a free one..lol...It doesn't have to be a detailed video but even a time lapse would be cool.. people just want to see how you work.

Don't get me wrong, We love your wip images.... its just cool to often see how one truly works on screen.

But if you're looking for money, then you might as well get prepared to be disappointed because someone is always going to rip your stuff.. its a shame, but it happens..

    Awesome work though.

    selahpoetic:
I see that you don't start a threat in this forum and I can't see any work from you in this forum.
So before you tell other people what they can do with there spare free time, start your own
threat and make your own tutorial.
I post tutorials and Matcaps for free in this forum for six years now and I can say that I wouldn't
post anything if all comments would be like yours.

    Cheers

Default I didn't mean anything by that....

Its hard to tell with just words... and you're right.. I haven't started any threads... and I don't have any work to show... but you were talking about money being an issue.. I was just suggesting a resolution to the problem of money. You don't ever have to make a free tutorial or a tutorial period. You do what you want with your free time.

All I was saying was if its money that you're worried about and it getting out for free then........"IF" You ever decided to make a tutorial then... "Free" sounded like a better answer..

But some people don't want to make free tutorials..and that's fine... Some do (which is awesome if they decide to be that generous).I've said it in the past...I would GLADLY PAY For your tutorials...

If I had the skills (which I'm still working on) I would make a tutorial or post a timelapse on youtube and call it done.. Like many great artist have done.

Please Don't be offended..I didn't mean it the way you probably took it.. I'm sorry if I offended you..

    As always love your work..

Edit: And IF I didn't say it before.."I LOVE YOUR WIP IMAGES" Greatly Appreciated....

One of the most detailed tutorials of a complete work is here and is really generous.

The "problem" with Ralph Stumpf's art, is that it is very simple

There lies all its greatness. It's all about design, composition, lighting , palette, quality, etc. What you see here is a very unique, refined and original process. I cant see what more you can really learn beside all his final result his wip and the tutorial above.

Sometimes people confuse this fusion of great design, humor, composition , presentation , efficiency as complicated, or something to be learned as a trick.

I admire his efficiency and I keep his art (in my mind) as an example of that. So to grow as an artist you may search for the underlying reasons that something is attractive, likeable, funny or Scary and inspire from these and not so much searching about how he did that tail, or this eye etc.
Of course this plays a part but not the major.

I can empathize with your hunger to grow as an artist.

Anyway I hate that I sound patronizing and I apologize for that.

    Default Yeah

I understand what you mean..I have a folder dedicated to his work to.. but in regards to simple, I don't think its really that simple..*I know what you mean by simple, Like shapes and forms but Finding appealing designs, and character in a design is very difficult.. Especially stylized art or caricature. I'm not really interested in how he does it, (like brushes, etc. or what not, although that would be nice). More so, I'm interested in the approach.

People make tutorials for that simple reason, or teach drawing, or teach scultping, or teach zbrush, because its useful.. and learning how one approaches that phrase in zbrush would be very useful..Which is something you can't get from pictures and the reason why many artist make video tutorials (May not be major, but its definitely not minor) seeing how someone does their work is definitely major if one doesn't know where to start (which isn't my case really).

The renders, colors, lighting, etc. Doesn't really matter to me. I'm more interested in the designing phase of a character. but... Again.. my response was to the resolution of money being a reason not to do a tut...which is fine if someone doesn't want to do it because of the issue of getting paid for the time you took to do the tut.

    Its all good..LOL
