Sorry to take that long for actually put some Pictures in my tread
But i first had to do some Sculpts to show here
Some general infos to my sculpts.
-Until now, most of the sculpting and painting has be done with the mouse.
-Exept for my entry in the 4 sculptris challange (Sphinx and Collums) and the Dragonfly i havent used any reference.
- Most of the Sculpts started from the Sculptris Sphere or the allowed Objects (challange) Exeption = Dragonfly
-All of the work is to consider as WIP and i hope to refine them in the next time.
Here My first contact with Sculptris![]()
Playing for a few minutes to get used to the tools.
Refined a little and Painted (First Time)
My second Object.
My try on a Dragonfly. Lowpoly Object made in Maya (At a Internship) and imported as OBJ in Sculptris.

I live beside a lake and I spend a lot of time watching them every summer. If your critter is a dragonfly here are some basic body configuration tips for you. On the other hand if you are creating something entirely made up cool bug!
BTW amazing paint and texture on your sculpts.

Hey celtic3d, thanks for taking your time to do a paintover and give me some tips about the anatomy of the Dragonfly! I will try to retopo my Sculpt and take in account your sugestions. ( Will search for more Ref Mat!)
Since im not to familiar with Maya, and its way to clean up geometry, my lowpoly mesh had some nasty errors. While it doesent provide to big troubles with sculpting, it crashed Maya all the time i tried to render the mesh. And it started to do all kind of wired things in the Viewport! I will post the changes as soon as i get back to the Dragonfly.
This is a bunch off sculpts.
The sculpts are already very cool. Some of your painted faces looking a little bit like plastic due to just plain painted with no bumps or textures.
But it's also a unique style if you keep it
Too much to ask for in detail, I must say.
Just one question:
The black mask on your first model. Is it an extra object or drawn on top of your sculpt?
Congrats anyway. A lot of nice things to look at.
Hi Knacki, thanks for the kind words!
To answer your question, the mask is on the same object. I was painting a mask and playing with the scale tool. Then i tried to tighten up the seam with the pinch tool. Hope this answers the question.
About the plastic look. I hope to correct this in my future work. Just had no usable brushes for this kind of work at hand. Will gather some and try to bump up the surfaces a little!

Ahhh. The mask. Thanks for your answer.
This dragonfly is getting great!
Texture is cool.
Colors are a little bit brownish in comparison to what I have in mind thinking of the dragonflies in my garden.
But that's just a matter of my imagination
Keep it coming, great stuff.
Really cool and nice style here. I am surprised it took me so long to check this thread out. Is that deflatermouse from the tick? Almost could be...
Hi SeanJM, wow, thanks for your replay! And thanks for your wonderfull Preset materials! I Use them all the time.
Actualy i did not know deflatermose until now. Had to do a search on google.
But i think, i may turn him into a interpretation of this comic figure!
But first i will have to search for more ref. matHave only found 1 pic that far. (I think this is deflatermouse, right?)
Ok, here is a small update. I put links to turntabe anims of some of my Wip Sculptures. I hope this is working. Otherwise let me know!
