3D print Projects
Last fall I bid on a project on Elance. The job required a ZBrush artist. This was for a large public works sculpture, a bas relief. My bid was turned down. However, a month later the company that placed the proposal requested that I do the project.
I sculpted the bas relief, learned a lot about 3D printing with great coaching from Ryan Bessant, the president of the company Heavy Industries located in Alberta CA. The bas relief ended up being 16 feet x 8 feet and .75 inches. This was a BIG object. Unfortunately, I have yet to receive photos of the final work on that project, but I did get paid.
I had hardly gotten the files delivered via ftp to Heavy's server, when I was contracted to do another project. This project was completed in early winter 2010. Due to a NDA with Heavy's client I didn't receive photos of the final sculpture until a few days ago. Heavy gave me permission to post the images.
I am enclosing a screen dump of the original ZBrush files and photos of each object.
Yes, I've sculpted several objects since I've started working with Heavy Industries. Hopefully, there will be more, now that I've had some coaching from the milling folks and have an understanding of their production process
The machine I prepared decimated files for was NCC mill (I don't know the manufacturer). My work was prepped for cuts made in hard foam. Heavy sometimes makes a cast of the milled object and uses other materials for final objects. The original bas relief project was milled in foam reverse molded than cast in concrete as part of the building structure. That was done for Canada's DOT.
First up is the Melitta Blue Bird. I sculpted only the Blue Bird, NOT the banana. Second is a giraffe for Discovery Hut a toy store in Canada.
