Post Sunken City (WIP - 121 welcome)

This started as a late Friday Night "doodle".

I first drew a bunch of random planes with the spraybrush stroke and used the MRGBZ tool to capture the alpha. I used the resulting alpha to deform a plane. I placed the plane on the canvas using global perspective which is done by holding down "Shift" while pressing the "Persp" button in the draw pallette.

I used the double shader material to create the noisy material for the buildings. The second layer of noise was used to hopefully simulate the kind of caustics caused by the light being distorted by the water.

The bubbles were also done with the spraybrush stroke and were made transparent by using Pixolator's "Transparency and Shadows" technique using the clone brush as shown in this thread: http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ult...c&f=1&t=000142

You can get a more intense "depth of field" effect by adjusting the size and blur sliders in the Antialsing Section of the Render Pallette.

This started out as a doodle, but I liked the way it turned out so I'll probably work on a larger size image later on, in addition to adding additional details such as more windows, fish, etc.

    As always 121 welcome.

Very interesting image WO. A few fish...maybe a mermaid or two.....a leviathan....... I am eager to see where you go with this.

Interesting techniques involved there - and I like the result; very realistic.

You may have some proportion problems with the fish though in "mark 2" - the scale (no pun intended) difference between most fish and a multistory building is stretching it a bit. Maybe a foreground shark or diver, or perhaps a shoal of very small fish. Anyway, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

First of all, I have to say "Whoa!" because this accidental doodle turned out to be really great. You have done quite well at capturing the underwater feel as well. Seriously, this concept worked very well for you, ie the perspective is awesome, the murkiness, etc. My only 121 goes along with Flycatcher's observation, regarding scale. The bubbles in the current image make the city appear to be a miniature, you may want to reconsider those. But, that said, keep going with this, please! Judging by your work in the past, you will end up completely wowing us once this is finished.

It's like a sandcastle that's been flooded at high tide.

You could add a 'cliff' in the foreground, so that the city appears to be in a valley. The groundplane in the foreground could have lots of coral reefs and small fish that would be relatively large compared to the city, but the foreground would put them in perspective, and it should look right. Fish hang around near reefs anyway.

I really like this one !
121 the noise looks a little bit strange, for example the noise doesn't match with some edges, if you understand me. Sorry but i'm from germany and i have problems to describe it.

Very nice work WingedOne! A doodle? better than anything i could dish out in a couple of minutes. Were the buildings done as a series of cubes? If so, they fit together very well.

    Good Piece

    Cool

thats a major cool doodle (hope it turns out to be a project!), WingedOne! fantastico!!!

i am with dO, though, as far as the material settings are concerned: i really dig the water-reflections you achieved, but the noise in double shader kinda spoils this effect, imo.

dont care about the above too mucho, though: as this is a major archetypical/dreamlike project - great idea - whatever turn you’ll take - i’ll love it!
