Default Video card driver crash on start up

Can anyone suggest an action to resolve this problem? The posts in this forum suggests that Sculptris worth trying out.

I have tried running Sculpris and it crashes my video card drivers during start up. Scuptris opens the application and a blank window opens. The crash happens as it attempts to draw the initial application window.

The first time I ran it, the video card crashed. I downloaded the most recent driver from AMD and it fixed the problem for a little while. After the recent Microsoft Windows update, it returned to the same crash behaviour I had before the driver update.

I am using Windows 7 with a ATI graphic card using Graphic Chipset ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2.

I upgraded my drivers from AMD's ATI site to the version listed below

    Driver Packaging Version 8.74127a-100947C-ATI
    Provider ATI Technologies Inc
    2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1038
    Direct3D Version 8.14.10.0761
    OpenGL Version 6.14.10.9901
    Catalyst Control Center Version 2010.0527.1242.20909

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Default Fixed with another driver update

When I finished the post, I thought I would check to see if there was another update of the video drivers. There is a new update dated 25 Aug 2010.

I installed this and Sculptris is now working! Woo hoo!

It is funny how sometimes posting a question can help you find the answer you need yourself.

Unhappy ATI Video card crash returned

I have no explanation for this behaviour. It worked correctly after video driver installation. After the reboot, the video card crash has returned. The only software update to my computer has been the video driver installation mentioned in my first reply.

It looks like I will not be able to use Scuptris after all.

Exclamation Lets help him out guys

Well that is not what I like to hear!

You are not getting a lot of responses so I'm hoping to get the ball rolling for you. Have you contacted ATI?

I've successfully run Sculptris an a variety of platforms including some fairly pedestrian laptops that also had ATI graphics. Are you having issues with other programs as well? If so you may have to exchange the card. Contact Dr. Petter and ask him if there are specific issues he is aware of regarding ATI 4870 series cards and OpenGL. You might also verify that your drivers actually did update.

When does the program crash? A description of the crash would be helpful.

    Hope this helps.
