    Post Mousetrap

After I have gotten B/W out of my system I tried something with a little more color. And CD got me thinking about half pipes.
If any of you care to 121 this image feel free.

mayhaps a little noise/bump for the halfpipes? but then: they have to be smooooth!

conclusio: VERY beautiful, digits! my new favorite of yours!

Hmm, I don't know about the 121, but here we go:

I like the background, the misty/swirly/shadowy effect is very nice
I would be cool if the pegs were a little more different.
The lighting(/fog?) is very good, especialy those purplish spots on the pipe way in the back.
The pipes at the front are almost identical, except for the ball running down them. Perhaps the odd lighting I mentioned above could show some on the closer pipes?
    I like this image.

    Exclamation

I see the mousetrap (reference the balls heading down paths to an event..mousetrap game)

    Like the grain.
    Like th depth and angles.

Particularly like the color shading on the paths.

Some noise to the wood grain would be cool.
The background could use a more simple presentation to accentuate the mousetrap itself.

How bout a mechanical mouse!?!? That would be cool.

    New 121 feature?

    Scale of 1-10 (ten highest)

    I give it an 8.

Thank you all for your comments, they have been extremely welome. I have tweaked a bit on my image and I do believe that some of your suggestions has made it better.

    1. Added a bit of noise and color bump to the wood. It is not too obvious but I think it does add a bit of texture to it.

    2. Added a couple of doodads to make a little more variety

    3. Added a couple of more lights (more color)

    4. Lightened up the image I think it was too dark in a web browser.

    5. Not sure what to do about background so I left it alone, And thanks Kathy for giving the image rights to its name, I wasn't too sure myself.

    6. opps! Sorry CD but you shouldnv'e got me playin with pipes! Couldn't help it

I like this image.Beautiful colors and a cool subject. The only thing I see here is(and this isn't really 1-2-1 comment, more of a general ZBrush question)the way the shadows cast makes some portions of the image look unnaturally close
to each other,it appears to rob depth from the picture-sometimes I see this in my own images and forego shadows in order to maintain depth.

    Hello Digits,

Seems you already implemented changes and although I'm only working from a memory from last night - I liked it better as it was

I remember a movement in the 80's when there was a lot of similar style airbrush illustration work (sorry I don't remember any particular artist's names). Your image instantly reminded me of this work - very clean lines and an airbrush style that gave the objects a glow - a style I really like. Again, I'm working from memory but wasn't the topmost halfpipe even in tone throughout it's length? I remember it having a consistent glow (same as just above the ball)

I too was wondering why the name Mousetrap - I remember the game as a child. I don't think we ever actually played the game - just built the Mousetrap over & over Do you like Rube Goldberg?

I like the depth and the fading of the furthermost pipe blending in with the background.

All in all a big The only real suggestion is to bring back the glow

    Thanks again guys

I decided to be fickle and remove the noise and bump to the pipes. As Impending noticed, it was the look of the material that actually got me going on this piece so I will stick to my first instinct.

I did add a few more doodads, hopefully not too much.

Rhom, I know what you mean about the shadows they don't look realistic but I paid no attention to perspective on this one, in fact I distorted it a bit in the Y direction. And each pipe is layed almost exactly behind eachother. If I had layed out the depth more realistically and played with shadow length you can control pretty much how the shadows look.

Yah, I spent a year in the nuthouse after blowing my mind with a rubic cube I love escher, bosch and all that weierd stuff. If you ever remember Impending who that particuliar artist was please give me a hoot.
