GoSoftimageLite - until GoZ for Softimage is done

Hey

Knowing that due to the heavy load on the guys at Pixologic, I made a GoSoftimageLite for the Softimage users.

Installation:
Just drag and drop the xsiaddon onto the Softimage viewport
Then find the GoSoftLite.zsc in the softimage Addons/GoSoftimageLiteAddon/zsc folder and copy to the appripriate ZPlugs folder in your ZBrush folder…oh my…

Usage:
There will be two new menuitem in the File menu. GoSoftLiteExport, and GoSoftLiteImport. As the names imply the Export will export the current geometry, while the import will replace the current geometry. If you don’t want to replace your object, just deselect it prior the import.

In Zbrush there will be a new subpalette at the end of the Tool palette, GoSoftimage Lite, with two button, GoSoftimageExp, and GoSoftimageImp. It will export/import the current subtool at the current level.

Basic operation is that the two packages communicate via an obj file (c:\GoSoftLite.OBJ").

Features:
Geometry, UV exported, imported pretty well
ZB textures exported to Softimage, but not yet flipped

I tested it extensively for a few hours, and seems to be stable, but devil never sleeps.

Feel free to test, but on your own risk!

Thanks, man!!! Huge thanks! Just tried your scripts in the work -everything fine for me). Softimage 2011, x64.

Jester, you rock. I’ll give this a shot with 7.01.

Thank You very much!

Jester thanks a lot for the plugin will test tonight

Well, I know it’s just a fast obj import/exporter, but it does work well  (under 7) So, thanks again Jester!

Thank you so much Jester! I tested your addon just now and it works perfectly on Soft 2011!

Thanks a lot, as Reactor reacted well, it’s just a fast OBJ export/Import, cause I thought that’s the core function that a general artist need. Now I try to dwell into the GoZ format, and try to make a more complex version, but meanwhile that’s a good start (at least I hope)

wow, many thanks! <img src=“http://www.zbrushcentral.com/pixo/atn.gif”>

This is very cool Jester…saves me some time from having to do the whole file-export-look-for-the-obj-and all kinds of crap… and i am glad this is not an automatic thing either…so i don’t have all kinds of OBJs in a folder

And I think you have found a way around the scale issue :)… I love modeling in real world measurements, and this is fantastic

Just used it to change the scale of my model… DO NOT do this…!! It softens down the details you already have on your model… other than that…it’s cool

Cool Jester, will check this out.:+1:

Can you tell me how and what did you wanted to do? The issue is with scaling is that no matter how you scale your model in Softimage, the painted details are not relative, but absolute values. So, if you have a model with about 1 cm depth carved in, it will be 1 cm even you scale it up to 1 km in diameter. Sorry if I am not clear enough but my English is bad.

I have a little problem, get a message “can’t create output file”. I guess it has something to do with the security settings in windows 7. Have tried to change them to read and write, but still get the same message.

Hey Jester, all I wanted to do was scale up my model to the desired height I wanted… but no big deal :)… i just love how fast i can now work on my meshes without having a big ass folder filled with OBJs

I just wish someone could do a script to export all polypaint from visible subtools and export to photoshop…

Hi Jester even i am getting this error “can’t create output file”. I am running softimage 2011 on vista

Hey Jester I tried installing this plug-in and it installed successfully on Autodesk Softimage 2011 but for some reason when I did copy and pasted the zscript plug-in both the Zstartup/Zplugs folder and in the Zdata/Zplugs folder I don’t see the new menu item in Zbrush 3.5 R3 under the Tool menu.

Am I missing something? Did I do it wrong? I have been waiting for something like this for a while. Although there is a GoMax plug-in that someone developed here in Zbrushcentral and I think his name is Norman3D and I know my way around a little bit around 3DS Max I am still comfortable using Softimage. Any suggestions would be of help.

Here are my specs:

Windows XP 64 bit
QuadCore 12 gigs of RAM
Zbrush 3.5 R3
Softimage 2011 64 bit

Thanks.

Nice …thks man.Just before when Pixo ll release ZB4 without GoZ XSİ.

Hi Jester even i am getting this error “can’t create output file”. I am running softimage 2011 on vista

You need to run Soft under Admin. I’m not sure about Win 7 as previously mentioned, but because XSI/Soft is trying to write directly to C:, it needs admin privileges.

I did copy and pasted the zscript plug-in both the Zstartup/Zplugs folder and in the Zdata/Zplugs folder I don’t see the new menu item in Zbrush 3.5 R3 under the Tool menu.

Do you have multiple copies of Zbrush installed? (ie: are you doing what I did and have put it into version 3’s directory, and not 3.5? :))
