More head sculpting practice in ZBrush

Pretty pleased with this one although I definitely need more practice with hair can only get away with that Tintin look for so long lol

it's just occurred to me that the lighting anomoly on his neck might be light hitting the other side of the mesh via the opening of his mouth - could anyone confirm whether this might happen?
in the meantime we can imagine it's reflected light...

Default Character Head Sculpt WIP 1

This is one of those projects I've been putting off until I figured I knew what I was doing... and now the time has come!

A variety of WIP head shots based on reference photos, can anyone tell who it is? I think the ears are a dead give away...

I think I'm just about there with the form of the sculpt - it needs another level of subD for the ears and perhaps a little polish brushing here and there.

I had difficulty getting to grips with the head shape, so began by adapting a stock skull model to suit the photos, and then sculpted back a polymesh sphere over the top of it. It felt like being some kind of forensic detective - amazing fun!

hmmm....not much response. Either my work is dreadful or no-one could tell who it is

I've now pulled out the neck and added her torso. If it wasn't obvious before I think she's recognisable now. Loving this project!!!

Can't tell who she is yet... Is she asian? give us a clue... She's not bad work though, your approach is good so far. She will need a lot more work to make the top row though.

From the long neck and position of the head, it looks like Nefertiti without all the Egyptian elements.

If that's her then you must be off to a good start. keep it up.

    Thanks ednometry.
She's ummm.....African and will have an instantly recognisable big hat

Yes still and lot of work to do - hadn't considered making Top Row with this project but maybe one day, maybe.

    Default Nefertiti WIP3

Somewhat later than anticipated I now have most of the modelling down for my Nefertiti sculpt.

Hopefully, she's now generally recognisable LOL

I've spent time investigating ways to get what will be the next level of detail into the character, but along the way I lost track of what I was trying to achieve first - hence the delay

My initial goal is to reproduce the famous bust. On close examination I can see that much of the detail is purely painted onto a flat surface (on her elaborate collar, etc), so this is what I should be focusing on reproducing first....later I shall try a fully modelled version to see if I can bring her to life.

Aside from the addition of her crown, I've tried to capture her quirky smile and reworked her ears and torso area.

    Feedback appreciated as always

IMO, you should model Nefertiti as a single mesh. This is a kind of sickness I guess
Excellent approach !!! She's Nefertiti alright. This simple bust needs some more love though. Side view shows something wrong in the angle of front generic face.

Ah yes....I tried the single mesh approach....way beyond my skill level for now
Many thanks for the feedback Michalis! Did you mean that I've not captured the angle of her face correctly, or that her face is far from generic?

Face is almost perfect, it's great.
It's the chest area angle - side view that I was talking about (sorry, language problems)
edit: no, it is precise, I had a look on reference, sorry.

    Default Nefertiti Revisited

Had to spend a little more time on this one to get the meshes retopologised - only the head itself remains unchanged from the previously posted version.

Still pure ZBrush so far - next step will be get her UV mapped and test rendered in Modo, then I can think about textures and surface detail
