Love it! I could see this becoming a very kick-ass wallpaper. Very "juicy"! If there was one thing I'd say to work on, I'd say there should be a little more 'stringy connection' between the ball of the web and the strings of web. Other than that, fantabulous!

Great job on that black widow piece..
I was raised in southern California which is overrun with them..One thing that stands out to me about your piece, is that it is in a lighted area...You will never find them in that situation,..they are always in dark recesses..inside pipes, dark corners, under rocks, anywhere where it is dark and secretive, especally when they have eggs.Just thought that I would mention that to you..Just a passing thought that may or may not be useful to you, but I thought worth mentioning just in case it might be.
Darkness might give you an opportunity to explore some really dynamic and dramatic lighting that would further enhance the piece..just a passing thought on my part..

Ares1979 - "desert" is not just sun. You can find there some trunks, rocks etc. Plain and simple - if that egg sack would be exposed to sun for a long time would dry out. Sun would kill offspring.

I would work as well on some more subtle net - right now it looks rather hairy/fluffy like made of wool.

I have one in my front yard right now - beautiful creature. It lives in the corner where 2 bricks meet in some trim around the bottom of the house about two feet up from the ground. Its home gets direct sun in the morning as the sun comes up. It faces the East. Even though it does have a web and home in the sunlight it prefers to only come out after the sun goes low.

Point is; the Black Widow will find a home where it can catch food, and evidentally this one eats well where it is now because it is quite large!

I think your setting is legite, although not common, such as the one in my yard. This is coming along nicely Ares, keep it up! Can't wait to see your finished sculpt!

One crit - give her a bit more specular, they typically are shiney Just like the image you presented in the image
