The Pinhead Project

Hello,

We’d like to invite you to join me in launching my new digital sculpting forum known as “The Pinhead Project” ([http://pinheads.freeforums.org/](http://pinheads.freeforums.org/)). 'Pinhead' is the name given to a set of exercises designed to use a consistent base model to practice short-form sculpts created in a single sitting of no longer than 4 hours. As the base is already created, the focus is entirely on the sculpting without worrying about any of the annoying little bits of working digitally. The Pinhead Project is designed to be a workshop for the advanced sculptor who wishes to improve his/her craft through critiques, comments, and moderated workshops along with other sculptors of a similar skill set. It IS a place where everyone starts with the same base and in the same time to compare the products of their work and improve both in skill and in efficiency. It IS a place that is meant to show work and get feedback, given that it is done within the guidelines of the board. It is NOT a place for the novice sculptor to learn step-by-step of how to create sculpts in digital 3d.

It is NOT required that you use any particular software (though there are base meshes in ZTL format for download).

While other forums are out there (including Zbrush Central), and are great resources to show off work, we found that often they are either so open as to be hard to navigate or too unstructured to really learn anything as an advanced sculptor. There really doesn’t seem to be a place dedicated to the craft, technique, and study of digital sculpting as art vs. craft with other like-minded, well-skilled sculptors. At The Pinhead Project, we want the focus to be on the process more than simply the finished result. We aren't making a forum for people to working for a month, a year, etc., on a sculpt, inadvertently making others who perhaps couldn't afford the time to do that to feel unwilling to participate – at The Pinhead Project everyone is on an even footing for improving their craft. With the focus on Pinheads, that is, short-form sculpting in a single sitting from a consistent base model, there really is no way to cheat skill. With this brief introduction, I would like to invite you join the Project. Moving forward, we will have workshop sessions for members that are themed each month, W-I-P forums, General Forums and more. I would be honored if you would please join us in this new community of artists.
