    Question Materials...

It's the basic stuff that keeps hanging me up... Sigh...

If I apply a material to an object, say "basic material", then create another object, how do I get a new instance of the "basic material" on the second object so that they can have difference surface properties?

I'm not finding a clone material button.

I've watched the darn tutorials, but when I try to apply more than one instance of the same material, it doens't seem to work. I'm missing somethign somewhere.

What you have to do is save the material and then load it back into another slot that contains a material you won't be using. Use the original material for the first object and the saved-then-loaded one for the second object.
