Re-linking/parenting zspheres

Hello, hope I am posting this to the right section of the forums, and not duplicating the question. It must be something incredibly easy, yet I’ve searched a while but could not find any relevant info.

I made a simple zsphere model. Afterwards I decided to reparent some of the spheres in a different manner. Alt+LMB on the linking chain done a great job at deleting the link between the zspheres, but for the life of me I cant find how I would link that empty/attractor zsphere to another one now.

Would really appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

ALT + LMB clicking the linking chain is not really deleting the chain, but merely taking it out of the equation when you skin the zspheres. You might be able to delete zspheres further up the chain (towards the root) and that way reposition a chain of zspheres.

It is possible to copy and paste a whole chain of zspheres but only through zscripting. A new version of a zplugin called ZSphere Tweaks has that functionality but it is not quite ready yet. If you want I can PM you once it is available.

Hi Mark, thank you for the reply! Thanks for the info about the Alt+LMB! That would explain why the link is still displayed if I click on the zsphere.

sorry I am a little confused by your suggestion of deleting zspheres further towards the root… I didnt explain very well what I am trying to achieve so maybe that’s why I am confused now  . I drew a little pic to demonstrate what I was trying to achieve with the zspheres.

Your plugin looks really interesting too, I would be definitely intersted to check it out when you are done with it!.

Thanks again!

If I am reading your picture correctly there is no other option but to delete the zsphere at the bottom, move the root zsphere and draw a new bottom zsphere from the zsphere which attached to the root. Which as you know is easy enough with just four zspheres, but not so easy with something more complex.

If the zspheres you want to reroute are not connected to the root zsphere you could do something like this:

When you delete the zsphere in step 2 the chain of zspheres will always reattach closer to the root zsphere. So you could put additional zsphere in there before deleting to “catch” the chain. It is not a be all and end all solution but it could work in some scenarios. Hope the picture makes sense, oh, and please take note of and marvel at the complex zsphere construction i used to create that arm. It is almost lifelike

This is what I think your after

You’re a genius! This needs to be implemented in the next version of Blender. With a few touch ups and integration into the GUI, this feature can go very far. <img src=“http://www.zbrushcentral.com/pixo/atn.gif”>
