    Default Reichskrone

    Hi,

this is my latest work, the medieval German imperial crown ("Reichskrone" in German). I paid special attention to match all the details of the real crown being kept at the Hofburg in Vienna.
All of the modeling has been done in Zbrush (base meshes in 3ds Max), unwrapping, materials and rendering with 3ds Max and Vray, texturing and postproduction in Photoshop.

The model has been greatly reduced by Zbrush's Decimation Master (to ca. 3 mio polys) and later normalmapped in Max to get back the amount of details.

    Default Royal

That is a royal image. Love the imperfections in the gold and exquisite detail.
Did you render it in zbrush?

Though I am unfamiliar with the real crown this looks great and superb renders.

Awesome! Only the shaders used for the gem is making them look like plastic. I don't think they had that at that time 8))). I would really tweak the gem's.
I guess you could borrow the original as reference for a while . Fantastic detail!

PS:I really think this would deserve the top row.

Superb details! I totally agree with sgrell. Those imperfections are really contributing to the over all look! 5 stars from me.

Hey MacX, you really did a great job on sculpting the crown.
as lemonnado stated above i would tweak the gems shader,
because atm they look a bit to plastic. if you would rework
the shader it will definitly be toprow work.
    keep it up.

    hey there's my hat!

jk. wow that is pretty amazing. this looks crazy real..
all the little wiring holding everything together gives it more of a sense of realsism.

    best rendered crown ever...

    Default Awesome

My husband is enthralled with history. Particularly the Hapsburgs and Germany. We have seen these types of crowns in person. You have captured the historical detail with the Medieval cutting of gemstones and the goldsmith's work. Usually a tourist cannot see such work up close because it is in a display case. He really likes your focal length resolution. This should be top row.

    Thanks for your kind responses!
Concerning the gems: well they actually look different to the highly polished gems you find on most crowns... This is a mid 10th century work and most stones seem to be in their natural state plus weathering of a few centuries. I'm overall quite happy with their resemblance to the real ones but thank you anyways.

This is really an extraordinary work - it looks like the real crown in every aspect. I hope that this is going top row.
