Smile 3d Jam #4:Fagin (Oliver Twist) - Domingos

    Hi Guys,
Thought I'd give myself a bit of a challenge by creating a character that has great expression. My plan is to create my own version of the famous actors below.
    Here goes...

    Default Couple of updates...

Going for a stylized character. I didn't like the first version of the hat, so gone with a more traditional top hat which I think works better.
Got a base for the hair that I don't quite know what I'm going to do with yet!
Also started working on the teeth - quite like the fact that he has no teeth on the top (I'll have to throw some gums up there and see hoe it looks) - Might try just one tooth up there as well?
    Any crits welcomed

    Default Coins

Coin testing... Fagin will eventually be holding a couple of coins (close examination of... hence one big eye). I'm also thinking of making his base out of a coin or maybe stacked coins.

    Default More updates

Started playing with the hair and goatie a bit more. Added the beginnings of a bust too. Also thinking about using the coin as part of the plinth, probably with some kind of stand underneath - not sure yet.

Been having a crack at the stand for the bust. Also fiddled with the hair (much happier now).
Now that all the elements are in place - time to get to the detail!

More progress - worked on the hat a bit; added a cravat & waistcoat; played with the eyes a bit etc...
Going to work a bit more on the stand and decide whether to polypaint or not!?

Added a base to the base! I think it gives it a better grounding - might try a couple of variations though.
Liking the classic Bronze - seems to suite the subject somehow?

    Default Latest...

Changed the base from the previous version - I think the coins work much better. Also had a crack at polypainting in ZBrush - my first real attempt at it!
The renders are straight screenshots from Zbrush. If I had time I would enhance them in Photoshop, but can't see me having time before the deadline, so stuck a background on to pretty it up.
I have really enjoyed this comp, and most importantly - I've learnt a lot and really enjoyed it.

a word of advice, before creating that unique expression you are after, do some work on the facial anatomy, because even though the character is cartoonish, a well-placed facial muscles might give that expression of yours an extra kick

Skarpunin: really appreciate your comments. You're absolutely right about referencing anatomical structure. As my experience of sculpting develops, this kind of feedback will be very beneficial.
    Cheers buddy
