    Default Martin's Sketchbook

    Hi all.

First, let me say how beyond impressed I am by the work most of you post on this forum. It's very inspiring! I recently got introduced to Zbrush and during the short time I have used it, a coupe of months, I have spent most of the time learning the software and also sculpted three characters (All still under NDA) When I bump into a challenge I spend time dealing with I take notes and study the subject further so I am more prepared the next time I have to sculpt it. Unfortunately, I rarely have time to sit down and study, but at least I had some time to study some anatomy, this time the lips. Hopefully I will get more time to study anatomy. I will post more work here when I have stuff to show. Thank you

Ladies and gentlemen: "The french Banana"
This is a sleazy french banana. The kind that would steal your girlfriend and then never call her again, ze bastard

This is basically just a proof of concept. I just wanted to see if this workflow would work if I were to create a character like this. Since I modeled him sideways like that I couldn't get the pivot working.. I would like to use smart re-sym to get the other side done as well. Not a biggie, but would be nice. I tried masking out the entire character except two faces and setting pivot in the transform menu, but I think the orientation of the character is confusing me. I'll look more into it. I have never textured a character before, my texturing experience is very, very limited, but I want to try and work some more on that so I did the textures for fun.

I figured out I might have to retopo the area around the hip where the leg comes out. Got a nasty topo down there. Either than that I think the method should work.

I have a timelapse of the entire thing, just need to compress it for you

Hehe, cool banana, thanks for shearing your work flow
I don't really understand why didn't you use symmetry for him, though.

    Thanks,

I messed it up from the start when I built the zspheres . Couldn't get the model centered, you can see me try at the beginning right before I start sculpting. When I build the actual model I know how to avoid that

A little while ago we finished a Subaru Outback commercial and I would like to show you some of the sculpts I sculpted the environments and the moose. We used projection mapping of matte paintings from several cameras to texture the environments.

    Here is the finished product:

And here are some screens of the sculpts:

That's a very cool way of using ZBrush. Nice job on the environment!

Funny, I saw the commercial a couple of weeks ago and was thinking, "how did they do that one?". And it's ZBrush :O

Great job on the Subaru commercial. It looks very realistic. I'd love to see a couple of WIP's on how you textured the rock and snow on those cliffs.

Thank you for your kind comments. Whenever I see a breakdown of a shot Zbrush lamps just keep popping up in the head. "Oh, I can do that like this in Zbrush", "Oh, ZSpheres for that", "Oh, a great mix of Silo and Zbrush can do that" etc. etc. I won't take any credit for the texturing because I didn't do any of it. I worked with art department back and forth getting the sculpt working with the projections. It was also cool to find the balance between texture and sculpt. Some parts could be really rough while others had to be more detailed.

I can take a look and see if I can set up some WIPs of the texturing process and post those here.
