    Default Buy the DVD's!!

I just got Patton's Gnomon workshop DVD's....Wow they are GREAT!!! It's about time someone put it into terms that are so easy to understand. Hey Congrats on them Scott and if you have even the slightest interest in advancing your abilities with this software don't hesitate just buy them both now and learn a thing or two...or twenty! A must have.

I have just seen the movie the other day(Dec 31st), and it was absolutely amazing.
The models were unbelievable, and to see the actual ones on this forum, I'm amazed. I was directed to this page from looking for a good image to remodel a banshee, as soon as I seen them I fell in love with the concept and I can't help but to try and challenge myself to make an altered recreation.

I love your work and hope to see it elsewhere.
Also, 3 years?!?! And no subtools! Thats really amazing.
I have a few questions for the making of them.
Were the made in all zbrush?(probably not due to zspheres being later versions)
And how detailed were the models before the zbrush modifications(estimated polygon count if you're willing to share that information.)

If you don't want to release this information, I understand the privacy you have for your work.
Simply amazing on how far CGI has become.

Saw it yesterday and am blown away. It's rare to see a product which defines a new level. And Avatar is that product. Great achievement. Budget well spend 8).

But... there is one thing... Which for me left a tiny dent in the otherwise mesmerizing movie.

    UNOBTAINIUM???

You gotta be kidding me! Haha. Who the heck came up with that retarded name... Couldn't it have been the elusive 'Pandorium' or simply 'the mystical stuff we are all after'???

But UNOBTAINIUM is about as creative as naming it 'STUFFIUM' or 'EXPENSIVIUM'. LOL. There were obviously aviation advisers as the flight scenes are 100% realistic as I can attest as helicopter pilot, science advisers for the flora and the cool references to the inter plant messaging. And so on. But then... there is UNOBTAINIUM. After all that other effort, the central element all the fuzz is about... it's named like a ten year old would name it... That name has the smell of Jar Jar Binks and the 'cuteness' of Ewoks... It brings the whole thing down a notch. Was it a relative of the Boss? HA

    Unobtainium... grmpfffffffff

I think you will find that unobtanium has been around a lot longer than Avatar, it's the stuff that the hulls of the Star Trek spaceships are built out of - it's an amazing substance that doesn't exist on earth, and has always the most remarkable properties and value. Though I do agree that there needed to be a more imaginative name for the mineral
