    Hi SpiritDreamer,

Still looking good! At some point when you feel you have totally explored the action aspect of boxing ... perhaps you could extend the work to encompass the lonely, tedium of the fighters world in the Gym. I did a major photo essay in the mid seventies for a very classy hardcover magazine by the name of Audience. My photos were to accompany text by Edward Hoagland who wrote a piece called "Hearts Desire" about boxers.

Here is one of those photos, feel free to use it for inspiration if it feels right for you!

Ps: I could probably fins a larger image for you.

    Cheers,
    David

Hi David ...Hey,..Thanks for the New Inspiration..

I was wondering where I would go next, now I know..

When I joined the Navy in 1971, I was sent to Chicago, the Great Lakes, where I spent all 11 weeks of boot camp on a daily basis in the gym as a sparring and training partner for a guy in my boot camp Company C who had won the Golden Gloves in New York..your neck of the woods if I remember correctly.
There used to be fights held every friday in the huge auditorium we had on the base..Friday Night Smokers...where the different Companies would compete with each other...all different weight divisions....That guy I trained with, never lost one fight..always first round ko's...would just charge right in there, and take care of buisness..no fear..LOL...
Anyway, to make a long story short,...I am very familar with the inner workings of the boxing gym, and all of the hard physical and mental work that goes into making a boxer a boxer...I think your idea is great, and tailor made for my art goals at this point in my life..I need to have something that I can relate to in order to stay enthused while creating...and I think your idea is just the ticket that I have been searching for...Thanks Man.. ...Maybe a speedbag workout to start with..would make a great motion painting..
P.S...Any photo's like the one you posted would be most welcomed..They give me ideas for composition.

    Hi Glenn,

I will look for more boxing images for you. I recently lent my last copy of that Audience Magazine I mentioned to a Interior Designer who has a Sports Management client opening a new office space and may want some "artistic" sports photos for the wall. I will get it back and grab some photos of those images.

I did something like what what you mentioned with the workouts ... when I did that series on the Gramercy gym in Manhattan, I was young, dumb and in relatively good shape (Martial Arts, Judo from the age of thirteen) so I wanted to fully understand a boxers life and I worked out and even did some sparring ... most guys took it easy with me but one club fighter must have had a fight with his wife or something and gave be a real beating to the body (I peed blood for two days). I know I must have scans of those photos somewhere as well. At any rate I will somehow get a few shots uploaded in a day or two.

    Cheers,
    David

    Hi David
No big rush on those photo's...I'm in no hurry..I have a good idea for a speedbag scene going through my head at the moment after watching the movie Cinderella Man with Russell Crowe last night..Great speedbag workout and gym scenes in that movie..great lighting also...
OUCH....I hope that guy at least apologized for getting a little carried away after your sparring session was over..Those kidny shots can be deadly..
Thanks again for your idea to futher explore the realm of boxing..lots of possibilities and emotions there to be explored..

Especially the one before the last.
A gigantic print on a wall, that could be something.
