Hey guys just some progress on the texture/render work

Went through my checklist. I know it's not perfect but I'm almost done I think and I'm burnt out by now for this model. Hope you guys like. More angles coming soon, just takles while to render

Except for the backdrop texture, this is a direct render straight out of VRay (no post)

@Julian_K: Thanks! I much appreciate such feedback from the pros =) True, maybe I was a little hard on myself, but like I said also I don't think my work is that bad, but I'm never fully satisfied also, and I'm just trying to push my own boundaries. But everything you said is true, and clear vision and confidence is important, thx for that reminder and reassurance =) Thing is my vision for this model was a slightly more detailed/realistic one anyhow.

I liked the whimsical nature of the previous renders more... I am a fan of the texturing you have done; it looks deliberate and expressive.

This particular being simply has pastels. Nothing wrong with pastels. It was finished a couple renders back imo.

    Fantastic model and textures!

    Thanks EricShawn

What do you mean this has pastels? Is it coz textures seem washed out? It looks better without before compression but this always happens when I post in forum, must compress image and then it becomes blurred unfortunately =S

So you like previous render more? Fair enough, but either way the previous wasn't complete imho, even lots of model elements I finalised and then i added more dramatic lighting, that's why i felt it wasn't complete before.

    Anyhow thanks again

Hey guys, I just uploaded a few turntable and thought I would poset them here, along with one or 2 more angles of Kimahri rendered. ALl turntables are in Zbrush with BPR render and using shader provided by Ralf Stump in his latest thread:

One of them is for the jewellery in fact, if you guys remember.

    Here they are:

    1) Quick Jewellery Turntable

    3) Blood Elf turntable

    4) New character WIP, coming soon. I have the base down now I need to add pose, more details and accessories etc. Here's a taster, but when complete she will have a turntable too:

Really cool stuff man. Where'd you get the jewelry printed off?

And did you do these renders from zbrush? They came out really nicely.

    Hey guys

I'm signing off this project now

Here's the final more or less
I figured out what one of the key problem with the last efw renders was
The IBL specular and diffuse values weren't in sync, this ruined accuracy of lighting and blurred things too much, i.e. shiny items were bloated in value while non-shiny otems were completely dark where shadows were etc.

That, and a linear workflow issue and I solved it so it's a bit better now I think.

@Clintus: Thanks for your comment man =)
The jewellery I must give credit to Alex Fedotov, he's on these forums too sometimes. He's a jeweller based in Manhattan who has the equipment and printed this for me.

    Cheers

Congrats on getting him completed - I think the new textures and renders are a real improvement on the previous versions. Definitely worth the time you put into it. I look forward to your next projects

The shots with the black background are my favorites..Something about the black and purple combo..really enhance each other, and add to the strenght of the piece as a whole..Just my personal opinion for whatever it's worth.

Fabulous job in all regards..Top Row in my book of Inspirations and Favorites..

@Etcher: yeah this is the kind of model that would be bad-ass if printed and colored, but too expensive like you said =)

Thanks guys! Yeah I gotta move on, hopefully with a fresh new project I will have motivation and little more experience to improve my texturing / lighting / rendering skills, but not with this character anymore. Anyhow I'm kind of satisfied with it.

SO the question... Shall I use this image or a turntable of this textured model in my demo reel ?? (you know to show off UVs / texture work on reel which sometimes is sought) or should I just stick with the clay / model renders exclusively? I plan to texture my next/final project for the reel as well if that's the case for consistency in the reel but was just wondering if you guys think it will work, or will it be harmful to the reel? I know I may sound a little paranoid but that's how strict the industry is nowadays =S

Thanks again to all of you who commented, Etcher, hoskins78, EZRA52, SpiritDreamer, Arthaven!

I'm really a big fan of your stuff. If you're embarrassed about your last few renders I should just kill myself.

There's no reason not to show it all. If you completely leave the texturing out then you can't even show your UV skills/knowledge. I think leaving it out makes you seem less valuable than someone with similar skills that leaves it in. You want to show enough to get that phone or in person interview and whatever is brought up at that point can be addressed.

Thanks KillahPriest, I'm satisfied with final result more or less =) maybe I overdid it so don't kill yourself lol! (Look at my work 3 years a go by the way and you'll see that anyone can make it with enough effort, I don't think I'm particularly gifted naturally or anything)

Thanks Arthaven! You're right I'll just show it

I did say I signed off this project but here's a close-up to show off more details i.e. skin details. Again I threw a quick background.
