Agree with John...no problem paying for updates, it is my decision if the update is worth the money.

Problem with Pixologic approach to announcing new versions is that it is very inconsistent. Apple never announces any dates or plans and people are cool with that. But announcing the date, than changing it to "indefinite" and leaving other dates in the air (BTW : is the original announced date for Z4 - in Q4 this year still valid ? I dunno) and missing much of them is definitely bad policy. Once they announced the release date, they should inform the community about the progress. Pretty bad PR in my eyes.

I am thinking about buying Z brush in the near future I think 3.5 looks awesome! But if I buy it now will I have to buy version 4.0 when it comes out? or will I be able to upgrade for free like those who were using 3.1?
    Thanks

It was said that v 3.5 and v4 is free to regestered users. If you buy 3.5 now, your get v4 for free just as I will get v4 for free, but I brought v2.

    Default I agree with you

The heart of the issue is these people need new management I hate to sound like Dr. Phil but I would like to ask them "HOW IS THE CRYING WOLF THING WORKING FOR YA" ! It will make me think twice about buying a 4.5 or 5.0 regardless if I was using a Mac or PC and 6.0 was free and just around the corner.

Pixologic hasn't changed in like 3 years.. what makes you think they will change because of posts here?

They are what they are.. accept them, or look elsewhere.

Blender can handle 600 000 poly now, using sculpt mode, smoothly. Textures in blender are superb too. I use zbrush just for details, so v3.2 is fine, v3.5 doesn't look useful to me. As a mac user I stopped visiting zb support stopped reading announcements everyday. Just waiting for decent bump, normal and displacement maps export. zspheres and retopology are really really useless for me. I'm talking about blender because its a freeware app so has live debugging, these buys look more professional than zbrush's teem to me. sorry.

Wow but they turn so quickly huh?

    "Mmm...free...buf...fet...

    What?
    No more?
These bastards should've put more out"

    Gratitude quickly fades into contemp.

I for one have been working in 3d for years...
oh the humanity of Ray Dream Designer (any other old timers here?)...
and we were happy to get through a job.

ZBrush is awesome on it's worst day, nuf said...
Pixologic is stars and strips above oh so many of the other companies...
and by all means, try the other stuff out.
Some does this and some does that but truth be told,
you need a toolbox full of tools to work in this industry...
not a single all in one solution.

Thank you Pixologic for doing what you do!
(now get back to work on that whole GoZ thing k?)

LW, I too am an "old timer" and I hear what you're saying. But, I am missing the plug-ins etc. a bit too so I can understand people's frustrations. I've reverted to 3.1 for most of my work at my job simply because those plug-ins did extend the functionality of Zbrush alot for the ways I like to work.

Tomorrow, this thread will be a month old. That there has not been an announcement about the status of the plug-ins or about fixing bugs (like the lazymouse crash issue) seems a bit less than optimal.

Believe me, I'm appreciative of not having had to pay for an upgrade, but if you promise me a free Steak dinner (Zbrush 4, coming end of Aug. 09. featuring Go Z!!!), and then give me a hamburger (Zbrush 3.5, no Go Z, but other cool tools didn't come until Sept.), I'm still thankful for the meal, but I was hoping for more because I was promised more.

To be pissed at Pixologic is just silly IMHO (although I've been there before) but finding a good path for your work-flow right now between 3.1 (if you like the plug-ins and stability) and 3.5 (speed, zsketch etc. hardsurface stuff, noise etc.) is really the only logical choice a lot of us have right now. Seems like the best way to get the job done to me is to look at what you want to make and then figure which package to use for which parts.

I do have total faith Pixologic will release a great update in the future, and I can't wait for Go-Z on the PC, but until then, I've got all the tools I need, just not under one roof :-)

totally agree with you pointpusher. i just played a bit with the new sculpting tools etc but for any serious works i'm still using 3.1 . i can't do without Zapplink, transpose master, subtool master or Decimation Master. I guess we will migrate at work once ZB 4 will be released. I didn't expect them anymore to make compatible version of the plugins for the 3.5 it's too late. Now let's just hope the v4 will be out soon and that the plugs will be part of the update

I agree there REALLY needs to be full plug-in support for any current version officially released. Otherwise I would prefer for them to refer to it as Beta so we know it is being worked on.

One thing I use on a regular basis in the Poser plug-in due to my workflow. Without it, I really would not consider ZBrush for my use and I know others are fond of many plug-ins for their workflow too. That is why I REALLY hope we see some sort of announcement at least that plug-ins like the ones found in 3.1 are in development and some idea as to the progress or support coming.

I really want to love ZBrush, but sometimes they just don't have very good PR about what is going on and current status updates. It seems like things get delayed for years with no word about even if they are still alive and what they are working on.

I was told by a Zrep when activating my key over the phone that there will be a 3.5R3 to come out before 4 and that they are continuing to work on the application plugins and of course GoZbrush.

    What means "before 4" ? Q4 ? December 4th ? 4PM on any random day ?
