    Default Honest question

Why does Pixologic show us such wonderful new things with each upgrade to ZBrush yet take forever getting it out to all users? Asking myself that questions makes me A MAC USER wonder to the ZBrushCentral page each day with the hope that today will be the day that I too can have fun with 3.5. Don't get me wrong GoZbrush is great if you have Maya or Modo and could use it.
Can anybody see if there is light at the end of the tunnel? Any word?

Some releases have been almost 2 years after announbcements.. learn to chill, and use what you have to its full potential, instead of wasting your time on rants, and desperate hunts.

It'll be here when its here.. and keep in mind even though an initial PC release was done, none of the plugins have been updated at all, so a lot of production functionality and useability isn't even there yet.

Oh yes. And I'm still waiting for ZApplink...

I suggest to Pixologic to give us a download mac/pc like Modo. You buy Modo and you can download it both for pc and mac, at the price of a single license.
I would like to use ZB 3.5 with bootcamp. It's not the best for me, but it could be a partial solving for this old problem.

Learn to Chill, That was cold. I am just asking an honest question don't take it as an attack. All the coming new features sound great and I guess when it comes out it comes out but, as you indicated some releases have been two years this is why it would be a good idea to have ZBrush as a one license covering Mac and PC. Again I do wish you the best and I hope things are moving forward.

Default new register ... and so...

I forgot to register my 3.1 - have just done it. Is there a "waiting period" before I can get the 3.5 upgrade? Because when I log on to my account there is no download link for 3.5 ... *aaiii*

I copy krisz77. And thats sad. ZB guys, you're very close to the artists and shouldn't behave like this.

I agree too. They have improved a lot their customer service and surely have a little more regard toward mac users (Goz) ... I appreciate it, but their behaviour is still lacking. I'm still waiting for an equal service toward mac users and PC users. In the meanwhile I have introduced Mudbox and 3d Coat in my arsenal. I think that Zbrush is the best, but I appreciate the easiness of Mudbox and the topology tools of 3D Coat.
I love ZBrush, but they shouldn't point out other ways to their customers.

    Been around 3D for a Decade +.
Still remember the Lightwave vs Max threads.
We use to joke " way back when " about who would win the 3D Wars.
Back then there where no Softimage vs Max threads.
    Softimage ruled, then.

So much has changed in a Decade.
oh ya we have cloth n hair now
and thou I try I can not forget how much fun we had 3Ding on a
PC with 32 RAM and a 3D card with a alsome 8 ram.
If the 3D app lasted longer then 30 minutes with out crashing you where having a good day.
We had plugs that would auto say every minute.

I remember how excited I was when we could have a character with a polycount of 3000.

    Default Thanks Pixologic

To all at Pixologic, thank you for awesome software and thank you for free upgrades. I know like everyone else that at times there are a lot of work arounds, things that don't work right the first couple of times, etc. How many software packages offer free upgrades? Maybe we could all stop and consider how cool free upgrades are. So what things don't work perfect every time and so what PC users get a few things before Mac users. How many users can fully use what they already have. I see a lot of astounding, truly amazing artwork on the gallery pages and at the movies that was done with Zbrush. Apparently there are artists who can do mind blowing work without 3.5, or 4.

Please consider putting some gratitude out there and perhaps in some way it will benefit everyone including yourself.

Default The Problem as I see it

I love ZBrush and I am thankful for the fact that this software is being developed for the Mac that is a lot more than I can say for SoftImage or 3D MAX. Programming can be a nightmare it takes time. As a Mac user I started with Newtek's LightWave at 6.0. God was that a freaking nightmare
nothing worked not even the HUB, many free upgrades came out 6.1. then 6.1a, 6.1b, 6.1c, 6.3. 6.5......now put in a few beta's in the list and you get the idea. Learning the program was much like leading Helen Keller around the room then moving all the furniture around for laughs. Without fail every book you would acquire that had tutorials you could follow would be obsolete before the ink on the page was dry.
Now Newtek is developing LightWave CORE and yes I would love to get it however, as my past experience has shown it would be best to hold off on this one even if it would give me the ability to walk on the moon. They also offer free upgrades but the simple truth is I will save more money by getting it only after others jump in the water first. Pixologic has some of the same problem as Newtek had with one major difference ZBrush on it's worst day is still hell and gone from the mess LightWave was. This I must say was a great job by the programmer to produce what we how have. My only problem with Zbrush on Mac is sculpting on a mesh wile it is transparent. God I wish this feature worked on Mac like it shows in the book Introduction to Zbrush by Eric Keller. I do look forward to the next upgrade when it is out. Things I am sure will get better in time.

superfabulous, Im happy that your happy, but id like to put some ballance on some points.

First thing is Pixologics efforts to produce the best sclupting app is by far the best iv seen for dedication on inovative design, and progression. There are different people that use Zbrush which will give different opinions due to the fact that Zbrushes short falls will effect some more than others.

Its hard to cover all levels of usage, but here are some exsamples.

Hobbyest: Some more seriouse than others, either way it dont matter as its fun, its being creative, and expressing ones self.

Artest: Again a range of these people are out there, some take this very seriously, others like to play with virtual clay.

The Professional: We have the freelance, and the employed studio artest. The employed studio artest has a host of other tools at hand to get the job done. In either case money is involved, there are dead lines, and the pressure is on.

When a problem comes up, you either skip around it, try a workaround, or re-think about the application your using. Either way you have to move forward. Some dont even need half the features that are in Zbrush, so they may not even hit Zbrushes short commings, or broken tools. Others may just use Zbrush by itself, but again it dont mean they are on dead lines, need all the features.

If you have a few very expansive apps at hand to aid in your workaround, then there is no issues, just a few groans because workflow is slowed down a bit.

If you rely on some core features of Zbrush that simply dont work, and there is no workaround that is reasonable, then the groans become complaints.

I guess what im saying here is yes Pixologic has gave some free upgrades, yes the new features are great, if you need them, but what if you have been waiting for some major feature to be fixed, and it still remains? What if you had plans to use Zbrush in your pipeline, and suddenly a feature just simply dont work?

What if Zbrush crashes every few mins, what if Zbrush was promissed to be delivered, and was delayed years, months? This is where you mite see the lack of gratitude.

Im thankfull myself, to have such a great tool, and a company that actualy cares about their product. This dont mean that there is no show stopers for me. In fact there are some things that dont just slow me down, but completly hinder some features like no smooth Uvs for textures. No multiple texture zones without distortion which wasnt in v3.1.

Yes, id rather have all core features working first, than add more to my pallet. We can all look in the top row and see how tallented these individuals are, but we must understand that the new features only enhanced their result, they could use Zbrush 2.0 and produce top row quality, because they did.

The mac users look forward to actualy getting 3.5 /4, the Pc users look forward to the fixes in 3.5, and v4 for Goz.

    Default Don't get me wrong

I am not real happy with the folks at Pixologic and I do get a feeling that they are more than just a little smug (I agree with you on that). The truth is their product should have been ready for the market before it got their. All companies need to make profits and in the area of program development parcel and piecemeal seem to be the order. The problem is much like Newtek
better ideas or new ideas become the goal before complete functionality was achieved in the last great idea. Newtek did get it done. I don't know what issues Pixologic is having but it would be safe to say that they are not alone.
I need to be as patient with Pixologic as I was with Newtek. I am sure that things will get done in time.

As with most people on this forum, I am dissapointed by the late software releases and missed deadlines. I am truely upset by the lack of information given to the pixologic customers. One thing that people keep bringing up is "don't complain becuase the upgrades are free." Maybe Pixologic should change their business model a little and start charging for some of these updates. I believe most people, including hobbiest like myself, would be willing to pay for these updates. Especially if it is used for software development, which in turn would produce more timely releases.
