    Default First post WIP Blackstar

    Hi my name is David and I've been looking at this site for ages because of all the great art and artists. I hope you guys good give me some pointers on what to watch out for like either technical or artisitic approach.

    anyway so i have started with a character that i thought would be simple enough for me to start with...so after a few doodling here and there this is actually like my first attempt to create a character..well existing character from soul eater. here are front and backs. please let me know if you have any C&C thanks!

    I'd work on the hair, other than that a good start. As far as artistic approach it's far. Do imitations of the work of other's, and when you gain the techniqual knowledge of anatomy and such you're ready for art So you can do anything your being wants to express through your hands, but the hands weren't educated enough. That's in short some pointers from me

    @benwin and cherub rock.

    Thanks.. I can see what you guys mean.. yeah your right that it isnt really artistic as its really just fanart or maybe worse hehehe. But yeah I'm not really happy with how the face has turned out too maybe I should use nice reference instead as I only did it with my imagination.. hehe so I'll keep sculpting that. and as the hair how can i fix it if its from an anime style? maybe i should make it simpler? or add mor strands?

    thanks again!

    Hi again! I worked on the face tried to keep it sort of boyish but experience in a fight. I haven't put in the scratches yet. And I really have no purpose for this just practice really that maybe could look nice so I could then move on to another piece. I'm still figuring out how I am going to do the hair with it ridiculous style hahaha.

    Its nice - though he still looks a little old - maybe its the cheeks - lines are too deep. usually if you want to make him look young you have to exaggerate
    it - likewise for older

    For the hair you have to make sure it dosnt look like a wig - or playdoh.

    It seems hard to replicate an anime character - especially in high poly modelling - though i have never tried it. Because anime is so flat you have to almost create a new character who slightly resembles the original. The hair is a good example - in anime its ok because its spikes but in zbrush you have to do something different thus looking odd - i'd say either make the hair understated so it's not so scene stealing - also if it's gonna be blue make it less saturated.

    Good Luck

    @stuu

    yeah good point! I didn't realize I was getting carried away with the deep lines. will make it smoother and more handsome hehehe. If I know how to do that.... but yeah I think with the hair I will avoid the anime style and just give a good'ol hair do... hmm i'll just have to see what I can do. thanks for the input. It does make me realize alot of things.

    @benwin21

    yeah I did find those as my references and somehow avoided going to a very anime look and sort of went with my own style but really still a lot of WIP. I do like all the characters and the anime aswell. have u seen it?

    Looks I wont be able to update my model tonight as I am leaving for a week and leave my laptop behind Will show you guys what I can do about this next weekend. thank you for the C&C!

    Heya! Gosh it took me a long time before I could touch zbrush again... So I did some updates on this character... man really this is all just a test for me. Still learning... So I redid the face of this sculpt to a more boyish look. I have to remember not to make such deep lines. And the hair... hmmm I think I have to avoid anime hair...ahahaha... C&C pleeaase. I will start a new character something more simpler just to figure some more things out with zbrush....I guess it's also all about getting used to it.. Thanks.

    Yeah I know... I dont think I'll be able to finish this anymore though. Will have try to do something different to keep learning. It's very frustrating the hair...

    dont give to much effort to the hair you can just make the spikes you dont to make tiny hairs

    and i think it would look much more good if you do it in cinema/max/maya with hair
