Very nice sketch man. Just one quick note..ZB 3.1 doesn't really handle the Transparency..so the helmet idea while it looks super cool it might not suit the final result...as the inner areas will not be shown...

I really like the character, cant wait to see him develop. Its true Zbrush doesnt really do anything transparent (that I know of) but you could still pose the character holding his helmet or with it at his feet. Just a thought since I like the direction your taking this character.

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for the heads up on the helmet. Great, now I won't kill time trying to figure it out.

Speaking of figuring it stuff out, just found the Lasso Mask too. Cool

Thanks for the encouragement. It's truly a new experience having colleagues or just plan old people who are encourage. Wow. It's like GREAT!! That's so different than what I am use to. That's so much fun. "People who actually want me to work!! LOL. Not sure if I know how to process that!!! May take some time

I know it makes me want to work.

OK. I use the model to rough out a design. It's a layout but too vague. I have really fallen behind in PSD painting. Can anyone suggest a good painting to tutorial or video? Like portraiture, not matte or scapes?

My PSD cursor has been broke and I couldn't a paint. I think I will dust off the sketch pads and pencils till I can work out more details in the suit.

    Thanks again guys.

    Hey folx.

I just realized never had a photoshop class and so eventhough I have used it for production. I never learned to paint or draw with it. I bought a tutorial by massive Black. Great stuff, but still I didn't have any info on the setting to use in Photoshop to make the wacom work. Finally while searching through the Concept Art forum I found some info. "Pen Pressure". It helped a lot, feels a lot more like a pen now. Still have to get use to it, but I'm finding I can at least make a form now. So I roughed out a pose idea.
He's hitting a button on his forarm to activate his data glove (switch again from gun) holding his stance but looking away because of the blast.

I think I need to go back to designing the suit, so I can model in ZBrush.

This contest is great because I havent done "art" in a long time but I do want to focus on Character Design. I'm still having a bit of problem with Photoshop. Can anyone suggest good starter setting to get a nice pencil or art brush feel?

Cool concept! The pose is looking pretty good too.

As for brush settings - if you are looking to get a traditional media feel than photoshop isn't very good at immitating it - painter is much better for that. However as for painting in photoshop, the two most common settings that I use are the shape dynamics with the top control set to "pen pressure" and other dynamics with both controls set to that as well. Brush shape could be whichever you like. A basic round one is a good start imo.

OK. Trying to flush out the design of the suit a bit more. This is pretty much out of my head and I am designing as I go so I can say for certain where I am going with it, but I do like where it's headed. I think it's maintain the original design. I think that's important because it's also a fresh idea for me.

Doing the seems a bit tricky because it hard keeping it from looking "Danger Will Robinson" and "Jupiter2". I wanted to keep close to the original suit because I have no clue what it is. I think I got a little cliché but it's OK. I keep a lot of the lines and elements from the shawl and it's looks some what functional. However, my big concern is would it obstruct his mobility. Raising the shoulder blades seems to get a bit "transformerish" and I don't want to separate the shoulder rims.

update: I may be forcing the concept but it seem to be in the general scope of the roughs.
