Default Action Hero - El Cabron

    Action Hero - El Cabron
    Entry by - Paul Garcia

Background: El Cabron is a Lucha Libre (Mexican wrestler), bringing justice to the world with a bad attitude and no shirt. No super-powers, learned to fight growing up in the barrio and honed his skills wrestling.

I used to watch Mexican wresting.. and man those dudes can fight...and fly! This subject of masked wrestler's cool. I wanna see him jumping in the air attacking his enemy...and his cape's all flowing ... Looking forward to see your creation.

    I like it!

Started looking at reference and want to have him flying through the air. I made a base mesh out of zspheres and started sculpting. About 2 hours into it I started over because he was looking too skinny. I scaled up my zspheres to start with a wider body.

I love the concept and you've done a very good start with the Zspheres. Be mindful of not rushing to add details too soon. It really pays to work as long as you can at the lower subdivisions.
You don't need to go back to Zspheres to make him bulkier, you can to a degree but once you have the basic polys you need you can make your adaptive skin and move on and just work with the sculpting tools from then on. To give him bulk just work at the low subdiv level with the move brush and pull him into the shape you want, I find that much easier and enjoyable than fiddling with ZSpheres.

Didnt want you guys to think I have been slacking. I was getting frustrated with my guy so I have been going through the Zack Petroc gnomon dvd to kinda send me in the right direction. I followed along pausing the dvd every few seconds and repeating what he had done. I had problems mirroring my mesh in maya and somehow I jacked up the hands mesh but all in all I am pleased with the outcome. I have taken alot of life drawing (even now I am in a weekly class) and this dvd goes hand in hand with my classes. This is all the blocking in stage. Now that I made it this far in the dvd I am going to retry my wrestler using the same approach! although I am going to use Zspheres for the mesh.

Looks like a good base mesh has been formed..

The only question I have would be int eh last image posted why are there so many polygons on the palm (Kind of odd...especially seeing the wirefrme itself.)

yeah, I am a beginner in Maya. I somehow jacked-up the palms in Maya. I am going to go back to my Zsphere I already have and start from there. This guy was just for practice!

    Thanks luis2008, Y/Haüss, and TheProCreator

...so I started over from scratch. The gnomon dvd was just for practice. I started with Zspheres for my base mesh and started sculpting following the Zack Petroc advice of keeping the gesture in mind. I am still blocking things in but I am just about ready to pose my guy. I am going to try to do the retopology on him first. I got some good advice (Thanks again luis2008) on doing the hands but since he is going to have clenched fists flying through the air I got out of having to redo them! Here is a progression of what I have so far. Warning: the scultpting gets ugly! el_cabron_sculpt1a.gif el_cabron_v10_1.jpg el_cabron_v10_1a.jpg el_cabron_v10_3.jpg el_cabron_v10_3a.jpg

I think it's coming along quite nicely. Just from the back view that the tricep's looking a little off and from the front view would be the area between the bicep / armpit. Once adjusted I think it's on a very good path. I wanna see him fly!
