Happy New Year to you too. I've been thinking a lot about the pose... Just want to get the design out as complete as possible before nailing down the pose
abe_Tamazir:
The initial sketch I had I liked it, but I changed tiny details on it basing on the real mantis reference. So now I've added quite a few stubby hair (Not too long).
Fractalbot:
Thanks, mate. I've explained how I created the hair below..but simply just adding in as subtools with lots of moving/ adjusting.
maxinkuk:
Thank you for your comment. Will try my best at this Mantis Man
Daily Update:
Whew....hours flew by.....and I didn't get much done....due to the fact that my computer was hanging ...and 2 times happening when I was about to complete the hair bits. The reason I'm adding the hair bits is because I want the hero to look......nasty like what he actually is...a mutated human/insect.
For The hair, I utilize the primitive to create the basic shape. The primitive that I used was Sphereinder3D as it has the tip not completely flat like the regular cylinder. I initialized the sphereinder3D so that the circumference's around 5 and the height at its full size. (Also I adjusted the resolution a bit during the initialize stage so that it won't go insane on the poly count) Then I convert it to a PolyMesh3D and painstakingly placing one after another as subtool. So For each hair I added I had to reshape a bit and rotate/place to the place I want. It's quite a labor work, but quite fun to see the result.
This is what I have so far. I'll most likely add some more atop its antennae and some other places. Please let me know what you guys think your C&C are most welcome.

I'm dying to complete the head..then move on to the body. I've quite a few design I want to put on his exoskeleton. Can't wait til the head's just right.........(A bit frustrated as many have passed my state already...feeling slow here.)
gang:
Thank you
BTW, as promised the underside of the head's quite complete. So I decided to render out the head view. This time including the bottom view.
The only hair bit on the head now will be on the antennae. But I might move around to do the body first. I've been spending too much time on the hair thing already. Agggggh....![]()

I really like the way this is coming along. maybe a few scratches or bumps on the smoother surfaces of the head? It would make it feel a bit more...real, I guess and would blend in with the nose area and the area between the eyes.
i really like the hair effects you have put on the head is very realistic. i like it very much solid. your model keeps getting better and better. i agree with teyon too that maybe some scratches or some sort of indentation or extractions of a bump would make it more realistic. overall this is coming out well.![]()
Thats one Killer update on the head. That look sweet! I left an answer for the hair. It may help you.
