Etcher. As always thank you for your support. I tried really hard to make the model come to life in the pose so I am glad you noticed

konjo kothar vignar. Humm interesting idea do you mind if I do make her into the cheerleader? I loved season 1 season 2 was messed up by the writters strike and then season 3 got a bit weird so I stoped watching about the time they started banging on about god.

Anyway great idea if you don't mind me using it

The crab is back. I have basically given him another pass and this was just a test render to see how he looked.

Would love to hear what you guys think, Thanks. Onto the pose next (the fun bit)

Oh and my Blog is now up if you fancy taking a look http://scottsartblog.blogspot.com/

Nice to see a real world model made.
Is this the highest div level? I see a bit of tearing/pixelation on main body.
I see on your blog you have tried the Decimation plugin on your Lady/woman mesh. How are you finding it to use? Once back in Maya was the resulting mesh riggable/animatable?

gelfling status - Thank you very much sir

mikala - Sorry mikala but this is the first pass before I edit the model. I intend to put chains, skulls, power armour and a HUGE laser turret on top of the crab. It's the only way yo get people interested in stuff on here .

Seriously though it's nice that someone appreciates real world studies. I just think studing real world subject will help me to do the monster/ creature artwork better in the future.

Oh and the bad mesh is because I still need to retop the body part, well spotted

Etcher - don't you ever get tired of just being so damn nice . I am really looking forward to some more updates from you btw

jaystein777 - Do you live by the ocean? LOL no I live (currently) in the middle of Europe. Pretty far from any ocean

Just a whole lot of referance pictures and a cup of water with 30 teaspoons of salt in it next to me while I work.

    Thanks for the comments Jay

Default Maya and the Decimation Plug in

This is just a Decimation Master test which I mentioned on my blog. It was 1.9 million polys and I took it down to around 200k. Amazing to not have to use a displacement map.

So the point of this post was basically to answer
    mikala's question.
mikala I haven't tried to rig yet to be honest and I am not sure I would do. The mesh is a bit to random after Decimation Master has finished with it. Really I do the posing in Zbrush and just use Maya to render the image.

I think it would work for static assets but I am not sure I would use a Decimated mesh for animation.

Anyway hope you like these mental ray renders with a quick SSS shader put on the mesh. I also applied an occulsion map the I did in Faogen because I work in games this is one stage that has always slowed my pipeline. Decimation Master has helped my SO very much in this area. So many thanks again to Pixologic for this great tool.

Texturing will be the next stage once I have tweaked the base mesh a bit more.

Any more questions/ comments I am all ears

Captain Sensible - Thanks for checking back again and I am glad not to dissapoint.

JR3D - Of course you can put the crab in your ref folder. It's not 100% perfect because for graphic reasons I changed a few bit on it. But I am glad you like it and thanks for telling me.

vedanta - Short but sweet - thank you very much

Ok so this weekend I reworked and polypainted my female base mesh. I will post an update some time this week.

Seriously thank you for all your nice comments guys - I really helps
