Ok, well here is an update. I worked on the anatomy, changed the abs, tried to work on the ribs a little along with the back. It all looks a little rough, I have not smoothed anything at all. i think that the shoulders are a little flat. I did not work on the head at all. C&C please.

Ok, so at my school we had a 24 hour modeling competition. Its called Frag Fest, we have tvs and systems set up to play different games as well. We are given a theme and we have to go by the theme for the comp. Me being the indecisive person that I am, could not settle on one, every time I would get going on something I would eventually become bored and start something new. I finally got tired of it and just started making random things. I jumped back into zbrush and started with a box and in the last 2 1/2 hours of the 24 hour period I came up with this, it went through probably 3 different looks, from Hitler, to an older Green Lantern, and finally settling on this. I am happy with the way it turned out. Sadly the school computers can only do around 4 mil in pollys, but I think its not bad for 2 1/2 hours. Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

SO here is a new guy Im working on. I started the bust during a 24 hour modeling competition that was going on at my campus. I did not participate just worked on some things. I am working on wrinkles, as well as Im trying to actually finish it. I have a habit of working on something and then moving on half way through and not finishing. My idea for this picture is having him smoking, also having Oxygen tubes coming from around his ears to his nose. Also when I texture him I want to make him kinda sick looking. Here is my model for right now, I have been told his neck and face look a little lumpy, but Im trying to make him look old, and a lot of the reference I have found the peoples face are lumpy and the skin hangs. I also think that it looks that way because of the texture that I put on it for now. Let me know what you think. thanks.

First off, you shouldn't post a negative comment like you did. It gives the impression that you're a conceited ass. I'm not saying you are, just letting you know what that will do.

Secondly. You're working too high still. His cranium looks very lumpy. So either he has a very bad medical condition or his skull is like a jelly. Either of the two would be bad I figure. His brows are very very pointed. His eyes seem to be huge in contrast to his head. His cranium is also very large or the rest of his face. It looks like you're sculpting out of your head rather than looking at reference and trying to recreate it. This would be okay if what you saw in your head is what you were actually looking at. You haven't been doing this long enough or had your eye trained yet to be able to just pull something out of your ass.

Think about it this way. When you ask a kid to draw a fish they will almost always draw you the little jesus fish. I've never seen a fish like that, ever. but when a kid thinks of a fish, that is what they see, so that is what they draw. You are doing the same thing, granted, with more sophistication, but you're still doing the same thing.

When you're sculpting...or drawing, 80-90% of your time should be used looking at the reference and referring to it after 1-3 strokes.

There is also a pretty nice Ebook over at 3DT that is nothing but busts. You should probably pick that up while you're at it. It's like $16 I think.

I hope some of this helps man.

It helps a lot. I am looking at reference, Ill have to send you some of the pictures, or the links. I see what your saying about the skull. Ill have to go and smooth over it, bring down some of his lumps. I do want him to look really sick.

    Default Looking good

Looking Good so far.... Maybe working in more gravity will help out your newest bust. It's hard to give a good crit unless I know ur working from ref material. The ears look cauliflower which is perfect for a wrestler or fighter but I wasnt sure if thats what you were going for.

I looked at your other sculpts and it seems you have a good starting point. Don't mean to drive this in since it's been said but...Try to stay positive when you post.....As you start to crit and ask more questions you'll start knowing more users and you'll have to beat the crits away.

One thing I might do i were u is....put down the tablet for just a sec...and check out some anatomy books.....anatomy for the artist is kinda old-school but its still VERY useful. Practice drawing the shapes and become more comfortable with them and their purpose.

Do that and after a while you will need it less and less. You should always use ref if your not familiar with a subject and alot of the time it's very useful despite how many times you've sculpted the same thing....repetition.

    Hope this helped!

Thanks for the advice sleep. I am going off reference. I had a friend that I went to school with who is amazing in zbrush, me and him would work together and if he didn't see me with reference up he would yell at me. If I asked him for help, first thing he would say "You don't have reference up, I'm not helping you tell you get reference up." So now I am always using reference. I actually have several anatomy books, I do have Anatomy for the Artist as well, great book. Here is an update of the bust. I worked on the lips and moved the eyes around a little. I added some detail just for kicks to see what it would look like, but I used 3d Layers so I can take them away. Here is my update.

And here is the reference I am going off of.
