Question Obj Import and Smooth Sculpting -- Question updated.

    Hi,

As following image shows, the breast is not as smooth as other parts. So I want to do partial division only for the breast.

I know how to do that after making it an Adaptive Skin. But I want to adjust pose all the time, I need to do that in ZSphere mode. Is there any way?

Here I do the partial division by transforming it into a PolyMessh3D object.

Is it impossible to do partial division in ZSphere preview?

Don't be disappointed Dan, The forum had been down awhile for improvements and the few times I tried to reply, I couldn't. Things should be back to normal now. Plus don't forget, it is summer time for half the world and they are most likely busy with their own works as well as hopefully getting some playtime and fresh air!!

In any event you are right.....you need to turn that gal into a polymesh in order to selectively subdivide. While still a zsphere though....sometimes starting at level one and using the smooth brush then working your way up through levels will accomplish the same thing.

For me, when I attempt that.....at the lowest subd level I make sure I lower the zintensity pretty low to start and work my way up til I smooth without taking away, then move up a level, add a tad more intensity and repeat til I get my desired results.....if possible. Sometimes I still have to wait til I make the adaptive mesh to selectively divide.....but most times it works great.

    Default Thanks for response

    Hi, Aminuts,

Thanks a lot for your kindness.

By the way, I did in the same way you told. But it will increase a lot

polygons to whole object. Memory loading become heavy at high division

level. Still thanks for your suggestions.

I still have one question about obj file. I export model to an obj file. Do

some editings in other application (In Rhinoceroces, reduce polygons and

weld them together to one group only) and export to a new obj file.

When I reload the new obj file into ZBrush, select the smooth brush to

sculpt. It become several broken meshes. Why these happened? Is there

any way that I can load obj file from Rhino and do smooth-sculpting in

    ZBrush without breaking the meshes?

Thank you again for your reply.

    hi again,

I am not sure what you mean by broken but....when you fixed it in Rhino do you now have triangles in the model? If that's the problem then before re-importing choose the polymesh tool (the star tool) first then go to tools>import and use these settings.....

    weld> .01
    tri2quad > somewhere between 35-45 should work

then click import and import your model and see if that fixes the problem.

Your mesh looks pretty cool so far......patience my friend.....we'll get ya up and running and happily Zbrushing in your dreams, at work, in your car, etc in no time!

    Thanks again, Aminuts,

Are you going to enjoy the summer holiday? or have to work later? Wish you have a nice day.

Better now. But still broken somewhere. I press down the Merge button and set the
    weld> .01
    tri2quad > 70

    Any solution?

hmmm try it with the tri2quad between 35-45 and see if it still does it. That seems to be the best settings for that....so far for me anyways. If I go lower or higher I run into similar problems sometimes. Also try the first and try it without merge on but leave the weld at .01.

Somewhere I saw a tip from Aurick about also doing crease function after importing I think with above settings but before drawing the tool to not necessarily close the holes but force them to be closer. I think it was crease....in any event if the above stuff doesn't work or someone else doesn't come up with something to try.....I will try to find that tip and see if that works on a hand model I have that has a hole that shows up around subd level 3 and if it works I'll let ya know.

Ok grrrr hehe I will see if I can find that tip by Aurick and we will see if that helps any.

    in the mean time....try this.......

import the model with weld at .01, merge on, and tri2quad at 40. import and draw on the screen, click edit to make sure z knows what tool we are talking about......now go to tools, export and export the model with only quad, obj, and grp selected....make sure to change the name a bit.

now reimport the newly saved model without doing any extra settings.....just click import from the tool menu and import it.

now try to subdivide it and see if zbrush did a better job of saving out the obj file than wings did.

if that doesn't work trying also turning mrg on as well in the export menu before exporting but use as last resort.
