    Default First go with zBrush...

    Hey everyone,

So finally got zBrush native on my mac and decided to play around and do a quick sketch. This is my first go around with Z.

I started from the default sphere and I need to keep going on the details. I'm having trouble with how to "separate" the lobes of the ears from the side of the head.

I'm already loving how quickly you can sketch things out. I think this took me about an hour and a half, but thats being brand new to the app. I can see it getting much faster as you learn the ropes.

I look forward to posting more stuff soon. Maybe once I'm decent enough I'll start a sketchbook.

    Cheers,
    holto

Oh, criticisms welcome.. It's an early phase and I think I do want to complete it, sooo.

    Cool heres a tip

masking. masking. masking... my best advice is to get a book and just read it as you try new things....maybe try the excercises as the book teaches you... digital tutors also has some great tutorials you can buy... there is also a book from "Sybex-character creation Anvanced digital sculpting" that i use and its absolutely amazing....check it out ... im very new aswell... currently on a military deployment so i don't have much time to try and learn on my own... plus theres so much you wont even touch without being guided a little... take care... keep practicing best of luck to you

    Thanks for the input guys.

Deezy, thanks for the tip. I don't know why I didn't think of masking in the first place, DOH! I've been watching wayne and meats tuts, but I'm aggravated that meats isn't in 3.1.

I think it's gonna be cool once I fully know the interface and the ins and outs of some of the cool bits you can do.

    Thanks again!

Ok, So I realized that in my head it looked right, but I think it was because I was stylizing it in my mind. I went and looked at some generic reference and have gone back to correct some of the head proportions, etc. I think it's working much better now. It was a little munsterish before.

So for the ear situation I just took the area I want to pull the ear from and masked/subdivided and then pulled the ear from that with the Move/Inflate brushes. Sound kosher?

I'm going to keep going and try to figure out the ear now. I feel like I now have too little resolution again in the inner ear area.

If I wanted to add a neck here, what might be the best solution while keeping the mesh decent? I realize that I maybe should have started that way, but now that I'm rolling on it I kinda want it to have that neck.

I suppose I could do an insert mesh?

Cheers, and thanks for all the input so far.
