    Default odds and ends

Hi, I know I havent posted anything for quite a while but mostly its been busy for me and learning as much as I can as time allows. There is so much to learn and know, the work in these past few months that fellow members have been turning out is absolutly astounding.

pretty much all major projects have been sidelined for smaller works to build up the skills to make it at least postable.

    relic armor 1.jpg

its alow res of it but i dont know much about extraction so i had poser five on my old computer and i outputted the figure so i could learn construction of geometry and mess around with extraction, alphas, my then new mats that are released on zcentral, its a raku variety. the extraction is sculpted. The transposing tool was used to place the sholder armors and it still gives me trouble lol. this is how far that version got and i still dont know how to retopo, these were all the new features then.

so this is a thread of the odds and ends that i created during this non posting time.

its not great but its a try. and you must realize that for future projects im going to make my OWN Non poser base which im trying to now its just the hands and the feet that are giving me trouble. Please toss away the poser stigma and look at it for the attempt thank you. also please comment, its what makes me improve and its vital to an 3d modelers growth.

(canned im going to take up your texture offer, just thats been sidelined too dont worry)

please comment on it i need the constructive crit

    ~update~

    relic armor sheild115.jpg

nonposer construction. it is a sheild, the mat is supposed to make all these like some sort of powerful old relic of an age long buried. it would go with the set if i added some spikes on the other peices like the sholder armors which i was intending too.

creature concept of a boss monster Quezacoltal{hope i spelled this right} he has two forms.

    quez-piliminary-example.gif

    1st one so far

this is a bust of it, im staarting from 1sub div first and hopefully i can learn enough about retopo to make it work

    quez bust 1.jpg

it will have armor and jewlery plus twin blades made of enhanced obsidian.

fortunatly ive aqured some obsidian to make the final mat ajustments near as possible.and it should have a zigarat to go with it.

i originally wanted to do this in zbrush 2 but multimarkers were not enough to make it work you can see the first attempt in an earlier thread.
    this is all in zbrush,

the subtools are actually feather like scales, so there will be a plume of sorts and now i realize that some can be alpha'd in but alot will be indivually placed and he will have rows of them. the hands need to be redone. the thing that mainly put zbrush two out of the reach of this project was the fact that it would of taken hundreds of zspheres but with the vast advances of 3, its possible with subtools.

~moderators please edit some of these off the bottom row, there will be lots, i dont want to hog the bottom row.

i was also planning on to make a maket of it before the modeling process but did not have enough materials for it but hopefully one day.

    ~Edit~

i just went at it but this is rough really i know the structural integrity is off but i just want to get the solid idea down and this is a mat by me that i use for sculpting when the need arises.

the scales are no alpha they are masked but i will try to develop a scale alpha for this.

i dont have a powerful machine but for this i really want to push it to it's limit.
the combined geomety is under 900k polys

This is an obsidian mat test that im updating from the zbrush two version and i have a couple of others that are darn near close, save for true sss. but it kinda looks like some sort of oil slick i will release these if you all want them just tell me.

hi, the mat{not shown in this post} is almost as close as i can get it, i have this actual peice of obsidon and its my ref. thought that i would share it for a ref if you need it.

    obsidian ref.jpg

pictures never really capture obsidian unless its a high res camera which i dont have. but you can get an idea of how difficult it is.

ok here is the mat and a simple example of it. and it really shows if you play around with the lights like for example of you make the lighting mostly straight on you will get a white outline. obsidion is so hard to mimic because the thicker it is the more solid but the thinner it is, its more transparent and it has a tricky sort of reflection. note you can get whites on it if you play with the angle of the light. you are welcome to tweak it even further, its not the perfect example, post your tweaks here though so everyone can find them. Also this peice of obsidion is not good, but i hope to get a nice flinted grade of it, a dagger. ok next is turqoise.

    and here is the file

    comments and crits are welcome

    Enjoy

The armour posts are - did you make the mat for the rainbow of colors are is that painted on? Or is that the ruku mat you mentioned? Really cool effect with the colors. Looking to see more of the armour.

    Yari,
This Raku material is really amazing. I've done some searching and have not been able to find it. Did you make it on your own, or is it downloadable? Anyway, great material.

thank you space man and hyper! hope it serves you well. its the raku mat, so no painting on is nessiary its all the mat, though perhaps for other effects it might be nessiary. thank you for commenting, and yes techincal questions are great too. if you dont render it you can have another version of it. can someone tell me if you can selectivly render mats and if so is there a tutorial for it?
