did u do all the hard surface modeling on your space dude in zbrush? sorry if this has already been asked and answered but I am simply too lazy to read the whole thread. btw the latest orc fella looks awesome.

thanks marciani, i used mental ray in max 2010 and rendered the disp map from zbrush. my settings in max can be seen here ( i realy dont know what im doing to be honest, im just turning all the dials and buttons till it works)

I did a mistake: put every setup like yours but not many iterations th show up the detail..... speed the iteration up and ....voila', have a displacement

great job on the wrinkles. Only critique is there seems to be something amiss with the nostrals
