Darrel, you 've really gotten the 1-2 punch of Groboto and Zbrush hitting the mark.
You'd get another thumb if there was a Windows beta![]()
markkens
Hey markkens - Thanks... the daily riffing is helping me find a rhythm... and yes, we also badly want (need), to get the Win Beta out.
Another 'Every Day An Hour' sketch. BTW, posting on the parallel CGS version of E.D.A.H and not the ZBC one -- only because I have this fairly active thread here and don't want to double-post.
Approached this one a bit differently. Simplified the GroBoto 'BlocHead', output a lower density mesh, then some heavy Smooth Brush in ZBrush -- going for a more organic feel.

Continuing with this Creature...
Went back to GroBoto and created simple body/tail and arm/hand base geometries... brought those into ZB and combined them with the earlier-sculpted head as subtools.

I've always liked that alpha-masking trick you use to put raised texturing on your surfaces...could you drop a how-to around here somewhere? I think you said at one point you were using Groboto to make the alphas?

Here's more than you probably wanted to know... but once I started to describe, it became clear that a bit more info was in order.
First... I just posted some text in my GroBoto/ZBrush Synergy thread (link below), describing the best ways to generate Alpha images in GroBoto. I think that speaks most directly to your question. Everything described there is available in GroBoto v2.
I use GroBoto-generated in a variety of ways when sculpting... some of which go beyond texturing in the traditional sense. More recently I've been using them together with some of our v3 features to sculpt complex surfaces. The attached images describe all of that.
...plus one more view of TroutPrawn that give a pretty good look at results.

love your style, looks awesome![]()
I've been following your Groboto threads for a bit now. I really enjoy seeing your process and the synergy between zbrush and Groboto.
I did download the trial and I have to say I wasn't able to grasp the UI well enough to get much going. I might give this another stab when I have more time. As I see a lot of value in what Groboto can offer.
You can really generate some very interesting shapes very quickly and as you've shown the meshes import beautifully into Zbrush.
I'm not really into the steam punk thing but a lot of the creations really have a cool steam punk feel. If I were into such a genre I'd def. be using groboto to come up with some base meshes.
Is their a nice reference on the use of Groboto?
Regarding Digital Art.
"So let me get this straight. I no longer need to watch paint dry, no more toxic chemicals or ruined clothing by a rogue globule of Alizarin Crimson? No longer will be punished for experimentation by ruining my work? I can take forms and colors and patterns and rearrange them at will upon my canvas. Easily upload and have my work seen by a vast global audience? BASICALLY, I can take what ever I can imagine and make it manifest?"
"Yes, but you'll be shunned by the "Artistic World"
"Cool, Where do I sign?"

Darrel, you have earned yourself...and two full weeks reprieve from "3.0" sniping
GREAT tutorial! Thanks...

Prosthesis - Thanks. I do feel the synergy starting to flow... should only get stronger as we refine tools and OBJ options. The Steam Punk feel is probably a combo of my own style, and the simple nature of GroBoto's current primitive set (soon to be expanded). You'll probably find completely different uses/styles.
Please check my GroBoto/ZBrush Synergy in a day or two, I'll post some info & links regarding resources (I try to avoid getting into extended GroBoto discussions here -- not the right place).
markkens - Thanks. I'll try to do more... again, especially on the GB/ZB thread.
Here's last night,s, late-night, doodle.

Same daily practice drill, GroBoto to ZBrush... this time more purposeful -- have really learned a lot in the last week.
Just getting started with this one -- had to cut my session short yesterday.
I'll post an update later today.

Here's that follow-up (see previous post).
... again, only putting those time-spent notes on these because I'm posting them on (CGS version of) the 'Every Day An Hour' thread.... normally I don't pay much attention. Also I'm a ZBrush slug - tend to meander.

Really like the direction that your heading in with this last creation posted.
Can't help but think of the creations of Patrick Woodroffe when I see what your up to in your own works and creations...If you haven't seen his works yet, then I highly recomend that you check them out.
I only have his book ..Hallelujah Anyway at present, but I used to have his other ones too but they got lost in the shuffle along the way...ALL of them are great, and great sorces of inspiration...He was way ahead of his time...precomputer age work, but with an eye for what was to come and become...a reality..![]()
Just google his name,..Patrick Woodroffe... and you'll find his works..![]()
