ZBRUSH IRC CHAT ROOM - Help it grow

I asked a question yesterday about whether ZBrush had a chat room where we could gather and discuss things and share artwork in realtime. I found out there's one on Southern's site, but we tried it and found the java chat interface to be a bit unfriendly (plus cut and paste wasn't allowed, which made sharing posts and image links very hard).

Therefore, we decided to move to IRC and it was great, but rather lonely as there were only two of us in there. So, I'm attempting to make it grow into a real channel with users in there all the time. It's on #EFNet in #ZBrush. Everyone's welcome and it'd be great to have it grow and be able to log on and chat with ZBrush users immediately. So, if you have a chat client like mirc ( available free for download at http://www.mirc.com ), please come and join us! It might be a little quiet and empty at first, but if we all stay in there a good length, we might get some momentum going and it might grow into a big channel! Thanks

I've tried downloading the IRC sofware and installing several times now but it locks up when I install it and it will not work. Any suggestions?

yep, that's one good idea, i'll be there whenever i'm on irc anyways. hope that channel is available from undernet either.

if mIRC won't work for you, then maybe pIRCh will, guess it's pirch.com, but should be available at download.com if all else fails.

dont feel bad.. i could get into the chat room but it doesnt let me go and crashes my computer... its a new site by southern so im sure that he will fix it...

OK I can't get in. Keeps saying it is unable to connect or that I do not have authorization. Can you give me a run down of the steps to take with the software in order to get in?

We have a new registered chat room on irc ...I have had the thing put on sorcery.net so use that server when logging on....hope to see yall there...I am going to bed soon though..been working on this for a bit...was going to use efnet but they were being buttheads..snicker...so we went to an easier server to log onto...if you need help leave me or nyugfu a message and hopefully we can get you fixed up...

Took me a bit to figure out how to get there. For those new to irc or just rusty like me, perhaps some instruction might help.

If you don't have sorcery.net add the network. then the server astral.hub.sorcery.net port 7000 This worked for me. I'm using Pirch, you get to that by edit server list from the logon screen.

I have been very interested in this for quite a while now. I think IRC is really an effective community tool and wish there was something available. I must admit though that even to this day the depths of IRC remain quite a mystery to me and can see how it might be quite daunting to new users.

I think the most important for new users is provided URL links directly to the chat making it easier even for novices to get there.

I'd be very interested in looking into getting a room up and going if others were interested.

if you have a client installed, it should bring you right to the irc chat. Also, there is a FIREFOX IRC chat plugin that is free and works fairly well called Chatzilla.
