Default 'EDDIE' (Iron Maiden mascot) WIP

'EDDIE' - WIP (20 mins in)

    eddieWIP-sm.jpg

I do a warm up sketch every morning and rarely share them, (mostly as by dinner time I've forgot about them). This was this mornings 20 min sketch, and usually I've decided to continue this one at some point (hence this WIP thread). Its still early stages, although I am trying to do a very mild redesign of eddie (as I thought it about time.)
    Enjoy

PS Mr 1 star I know who you are now. (You made it a bit too obivous this time) Last 2 times inside of 2 mins 'Mr 1 star' posted but never leaves a comment to explain why he hates 'the work' so much'lol.

So I'm balancing out your rating for you! Which you deserve because of the speed to quality ratio! Well done.

    Nicely lit too.

    Cheers,

    R

Thanks Rory, Stars don't realy bother me but personally if I was going to give a person 1 star I'd at least tell them why if I was trying to help.

Xerbee: Ah the 'Waynecasts' started as a jokey thing for mates of mine in and outside the industry as a way to keep in touch....they've sort of taken on a life of their own lately. Guilty as charged on the username being geeky. ;0 Although geeky is the new black I'm told.

    Negative, Chris: thanks guys.

Calum: Its just practice mate, means I can get more stuff done and hence earn more dosh per hour than if I took more time. The trick is to keep the speed / quality balance right.

Hmm..... I did a quick 1/ 2 hour on him and things went a bit pear shaped (ended up overworking it a bit too much), so going to roll back to this version and start again from it. I dont want to go into uber detail on the eddie as I dont think the character needs it to be frank. Just going to be a matter of keeping those strong lines and design decent enough. (Course thats the tricky part.)

It struck me when 1st messing around wiht this one that there isn't a whole massive ammount of eddies about in 3D as a hole. So I thought its time that was put a stop to lol. Plus I've wanted to do a eddie since I 1st started, so its about time. Although its having to fit in with my current client work for a documetary.

Very nice!! That's a heck of a re-design. He looks like he has more meat on his bones now. Must have been after that whole straight jacket incident. Great work.

    Pose block in only...

    EDDIE-WHOLE1-sm.jpg

Just the base for the body added and posed (cyinders are placeholders for the eventual flags). As a change form my usual practrice, I decided to pose him before starting the serious modeling as I somtimes get some pinching if I pose at the end.

No work done on lower body just neck, shoulders and basic block in for arms. He'll b clothed so I'm not going to far with the anatomy on this right now, just blocking in the volumes for later. That will help when working out the cloth folds etc... Basically I wanted to try and capture the feel early on this one. Body is only 1/2 million polys right now.

I've got 3 ideas for the clothes...but I'm still not sure which to go for.... a trooper style uniform, orginal leathers (circa killers) or aomehting more sci fi.

id say go for the leather , ala killers album but im not sure how well it would work without the hair.

hah, im loving this tho - making me want to throw some maiden on now.

    cheers!

I had a little time tonight to thought I'd refine some of the muscles and make him lose a bit of weight. I'm still undecided on the costume..... I'm torn between the 'Killers' album style look and 'the Trooper' look. The trooper one willl work well as it will have some colors of the other parts of the model in it....(Final will contain two flags on the poles.... so a costume that contains some of the colors would be good I feel.)

Will a killers style look in leather bikers jacket and jeans work with no hair as in later style Eddies? Plus would doing a trooper style uniform make the redesign look like it was intended to be a 'copy' but didn't turn out right....I'm in about 12 minds about it lol.

For those who haven't the vaugest idea what on earth I'm going on about, here's a couple of links to the two covers and styles I'm refering to...

    Any views are welcome.
