Default Scared Silly Entry by Ron Harris

Hello all. One of the things that bugs me in modern times here in the states is how politically correct everything is becoming. You can't fart or scratch your butt without some group of people telling you that you are wrong for doing it or for using the word fart instead of something more suiting and palatable like bodily gas or poot...etc...

I started noticing this in the early 90's when my kids began going to school. Halloween cannot be used in the schools for the most part. They want it to be called Fall Festival or Fall Harvest instead. The kids could dress up for their parties in school, but you could not come to school dressed as a monster etc....but instead they wanted the kids to come to school dressed as story book characters...ie Jack and Jill, Humpty Dumpty, Pirates etc....nothing evil or scary allowed.....

I took a small job around the same time at a convenience store. We decorated the store in traditional Halloween decorations...ie witch heads, skulls, ghosts, bats and black cats etc. This is normal stuff for most retailers around here as well as the chain of stores I worked for. A couple of customers came in and found it offensive and made an issue over it and the next thing I knew, I recieved a notice to take 99 percent of it all down. The customers for the most part complained, because they loved what we did to the store originally with the decorations.

So.....with all this said, that is the inspiration for my entry. I am doing an image with a huge spider walking down the street with a witch riding atop. They are being trailed by protesters that have been wrapped in webbing and are being dragged behind the spider. Their protest signs litter the streets.

That is the jist of my entry. I have began modeling the victims . This is a trial of what the protesters will look like.

I think the title I will use for the image is ..."If Ya' Can't Beat Em' ...Eat Em' "

I hope this will be humorous?

    thnx

ps. ironically Fox News is having a newscast about this right now.....geeez...it never ends...grrrrrr

The concept sketch is rough...or rather ultra quick and dirty...and kindergartenish too I guess...but guess that is why they call it a concept...

2nd sketch is an over head view for to help me with placement.

3rd is the webbed up protester sketch

4th is the concept sketch for the witch rider on the lead black widow

5th is my little bat(s) sketch

I love the idea! I could think of a few more people to throw in there from the PC crowd, but I'll leave them nameless so as to not hijack the thread....

Just make sure it looks painful for them lol.

    Good luck with it.

Ever since the contest was presented, I've been waiting to see what you plan to throw into the hat...and I like this idea. Great start on the victims.

Workin' on the pumkins for the scene....you can't have a Halloween without punkins'

thnx yall. This is pretty ambitious for me to say the least...lol can't say the last time I put a scene together (and especially one without blood or gore)

well these are two of the faces. Made the alphas for the 4 faces in PhotoFiltre.

    thnx again.

    Ron

    Now back to makin' punkins'

    Ron Harris,

Great concept and intial sculpting. The web-wrapped-wailing-weeners are especially well crafted. I think most people in the states are sick of the cowardly, sychophantic fawning public organizations and business show towards anyone who says they're offended by something. We should find a way to summon carnivorous demons to eat the weak minded sissies. The world would be that much more colorful.

Anyway, awesome work and inspiration. Thanks for the history behind the idea.

Go for it man!!!! Here is the UK we are suffering from the PC (politically correct) plague too!

No Christmas lights allowed on some city streets as it might offend some people, no hot cross buns near Easter in schools anymore as its not seen as conformist.

And one of the schools near us banned students from Halloween activities this year as it might offend someone, or summon the devil, or raise the apocalypse or some such rubbish..... hey wait?.... who are those four dark horse riders in the sky there?...... oh well probably find out later..... anyhow, good luck with this one.... stick it to em, I'm rooting for ya!!

Yeah Ron great idea, i think you are gonna have a lot of supporters on this one, i'm curious to see how you are going to do the spider webs do you think you will just paint them in 2d, or have you gone something up your sleeve for that

LoL an interesting concept, love where you are getting your inspiration from.
You seem to be motoring along with the props etc looking forward to seeing it start to come together. I think if you keep it universal then this pic could mean something different to each person that looks at it as regards who is in the webs

    Default Sweet!

Pretty cool concept my man!. I really like the webbing you have created. My only suggestion as of now is to create many different body types that are going to be webbed up, and maybe think of those red plastic bags of oranges for the webbing. I'm sure you all ready thought of this though. Best of luck Ron!

    Good luck, Ron!

Easy to make a crowd of varying figures .. copy a bunch and then run each through the 'Gross Disfigurement' filters at random.

ravioli_rancher- thank you for your kind words. And I agree whole heartedly about the tree huggers.

dustbin1_uk- yeah the disease is becoming world wide it seems. The topic was constantly on the news channels today. But......the particular article on the news had a rainbow....they withdrew the vote for taking out Christmas and Halloween in the school in question and added Ramadon (sp?) to the holidays celebrated at school.

hitch- I am going to do some 2d webs, 2.5d webs and model a few in 3d....I worry about them losing their silky softness in modeling them, but I think I can work something in..

Effulgent3d-I hope everyone enjoys it obviously, but if it makes a person stop and think a bit, then that is a major bonus. TY

sirquadalot- thnx my friend. The different body types will happen. Different heights, chubbyness, etc. The orange bags I hadn't thought of but I had thought of onion bags (lol same thing) I don't want to clutter the image with too many victims, but I will just have to play that by ear as I put the image together. Great to hear from ya stranger.

Moochie- thnx....I will make a generic figure and tweak it to make the victims running from the black widow. The hardest part of this for me I am finding, is the non use of blood, gore and violence....for real.....

I am working on the background population now. The first one is a clown. Zspheres and a torus for the neck piece. Hands are seperate and will be posed on the next update.

    thnx again.

And good luck to everyone else also.

    (2nd Edit)
Gave him some chompers again ...*note...slashed his fingers off the bucket handle. Going to have to model another hand from scratch, because the fingers do not want to bend the right way for me..grrrr...thought this black n white filter looked kind of kewl with the raw model...no clowning around, seriously time to move on to the next character...thnx

still wanna give him ears...and detail the hair a bit more.

edit...the pieces I have roughed out this evening...the bee and the pumkin costume will be redone, but I wanted a sketch of sorts to know what I was headed towards. time for bed now...g' nite..
