Default My first Z 3.X project (Drengin Lord W.I.P.)

This is a project I started in Z3 to get the hang of the new program, but was pulled away to work in another area for a few months and never really got to do anything substantial. Now I'm back and stumbling through 3.1 which is still brand new to me. It's just a "re-imagining" of the evil Drengin from the great space strategy game Galactic Civilizations 2...I never quite thought they looked imposing enough for my tastes.

It's all geometry/HD Geo. Base mesh was modeled in Silo. Now it's on to test out the new polypainting, and to do the fine detail work, which I wanted to combine with the polypainting so I could embed color in the details at the same time.

Really great work, how did you get it so smooth... lazy brush?

    Keep up the good work!

I'm not sure what you mean, specifically. In a general sense, it's "smooth" because of Z3's insane polygon potential.

    Default Smooth

    Hi Bingo,

The image has very straight and smooth finishings, is this from Silo or did you smooth it out in ZBs?

Or is it that I need a more powerful machine?

I think I understand what you're asking. You're asking about some of the more precise "mechanical" shapes with crisp lines, as opposed to the more organic shapes? In which case, yes, that's just detail that's been modeled in. Here are the base wires, so you can see what's been modeled, and what's been "sculpted".

    Default Thx

Thanks Bingo, I have more of a 2D back ground and have only recently started 3D, have tried my hand at Rhino, but since trying ZB's I am completely hooked, I don't know Silo, but was looking at Maya or Cinema 4D, would you suggest Silo?

Thanks for the help and to all you other out there, thanks for the input on this forum, specialy as very little is available in Africa (Namibia)..

Keep it up, I visit this site for breakfast, lunch and supper...

Silo is not the only 3D modeler I use, but I would highly recommend it as an accesory to ZB for starting users, because it is accesible, easy to pick up, and cheap, and yet still one of the best Subdivision modelers availiable. I have much more powerful applications, like XSI, but would prefer to work in Silo for base mesh work whenever possible. ZB works best alongside a traditional modeler.

Some PolyPaint progress. Eyes (Eye) are temporary...I'll be redoing them once I convert to texture. It kind of sucks that now I'm finally to the fun part I may have to take a break from this to work on the "Scared Silly" challenge.

    Default Thx

Thanks Bingo, I have downloaded the demo of Silo really seems to keep things sharp and smooth, where would one get tutorials for this?

Then moving to and fro between all these different programs, how does one keep the mesh from splitting up?

Sorry for wasting your precious time, as time is of importance now that everyone will be chasing the Scary competition... go for it, I probably try my beginners hand at it... good luck, should be fun...

Thanks for the comments, those few of you who've been following the thread!

Basic color and material zones all painted, light detailing. This is not a finished piece... very little material adjustment, much more detail to paint...but it's a logical stopping point for now, as I need to focus on my "Scared Silly" piece for the time being.
